Research Scientist/Scientist - Stem Cell

Support the Stem Cell Biology Group with tissue culture duties.  Design and conduct experiments (Air Liquid Interface and Organoid) with human bronchial epithelial cells, human nasal epithelial cells.  Advance protocol development for directed differentiation of airway basal like cells from iPSC sources.  Master immunostaining and confocal microscopy and FACS.  Analyze, prepare, and contribute to lab meeting through figure production, and active discussion and engagement.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Perform routine tissue culture needed for the experiments carried out by the group.
    • Passage hBE / hNE cells and initiate differentiation assays.
    • Design and optimize organoid swelling assay.
  • Perform directed differentiation of iPSC cells to intestinal and airway lineages.
  • Independently and/or as part of a team conduct biological assays.
  • Maintain detailed records of the work carried out (electronic lab notebook).
  • Analyze data and interpret results.
  • Intellectually contribute to presentations, posters, and lab meetings through written materials and figure production.
  • Represent the Stem Cell Group at offsite meetings with collaborators, upon request.
Educational Background: 
BS/MS degree in life sciences with 10-15+ years of experience.
PhD with 0-3+ years related experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Handle multiple tasks, prioritize and keep organized to ensure timely and accurate work.
  • Ability to concentrate on details.
  • Working mastery of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel plus scientific software for data recording and analysis.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Scientist II– Head of Stem Cell Biology.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Commute to lab every workday.
  • Rotation based weekend work in the lab to maintain tissue culture workflow.
  • Once or twice a year travel to scientific or technological meeting as necessary.
  • Must have access to reliable means of transportation for travel to the lab on every workday.
  • Use of computer required.
  • Sitting, bending, reaching, and walking.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (not to exceed 50 lbs.) for set-up of lab equipment.
