The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a highly regarded national voluntary health services agency, is increasing the staff of its newly built-out R&D laboratory in Lexington, MA (greater Boston area). Focus of the lab is the development and testing of assays and technologies that may lead to new treatments for Cystic Fibrosis (CF).
Areas of Responsibility:
The Research Associate will conduct technical tasks and laboratory functions under general supervision of the Cell Bank Manager.
- She/he is expected to work as a team in the expansion, and operation of the laboratory’s cell bank. Key job duties include: primary cell isolation from human tissue samples (e.g. lung, nasal, colon) using aseptic techniques, expansion, quality control (QC) and preservation of the harvested cells. Adherence to and participation in drafting of standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and QC protocols as well as good record keeping is expected.
- She/he will become part of a team of highly motivated scientists and will also be responsible for timely execution, operational excellence, and data quality. The candidate is expected to present work and progress at internal meetings.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in life sciences and 2+ years of R&D experience
Skills/Experience:
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with mammalian cell cultures. Prior work experience with primary cell isolation and bronchial/nasal epithelial cell cultures is considered a very strong plus
- Proven ability to deliver reproducible data of high quality
- Detail-oriented scientist capable of multi-tasking in a small dynamic team
- Must be willing to work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays
