Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Program Quality & Implementation, the Senior Director of Field Operations works collaboratively with technical experts to translate program design into implementation frameworks and ensure that Save the Children's U.S. programs are implemented with the highest quality and standards. He/she directly supervises State Directors and Deputy State Directors and works with them to drive results for children in the U.S. He/she also oversees the national partner planning process and budget and is responsible for staff management and development. He/she contributes to national level strategic planning and the development of state and national strategic partnerships.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Oversee Field Operations: 50%

  • Work with state leads and other stakeholders to develop and implement strategic and annual plans for each state.
  • Oversee annual partner planning process and budget.
  • Ensure overall health of program and partner relationships.
  • Build knowledge and develop partnership capacity across field staff through training and technical assistance.
  • Develop, implement and measure appropriate national metrics to monitor and improve field operations.

Staff Management: 25%

  • Directly supervise State Directors and Deputy State Directors.
    • Advance technical and supervisory capacities.
    • Build capacity to elevate their level of responsibility and develop professional capacity.
    • Assist state leads with strategic guidance and complex issue resolution.
  • Optimize the use of national resources and ensure organizational systems support state teams.

 Develop National Strategic Partnerships: 15%

  • In coordination with technical advisors, develop and manage key state and national level strategic partnerships that advance Save the Children's programmatic agenda in the United States.
  • Represent Save the Children to strategic partners, communities, donors and decision-makers to ensure awareness and support.
  • As needed, establish working relationships with key policymakers and state/national authorities including synergistic working relationships with other non-profit organizations.

Other Core Responsibilities: 10%

  • Prepare periodic program updates, as well as quarterly and annual reports.
  • Ensure compliance to agency standards, policies and procedures for all program and operational activities.
  • Engage proactively with the members of the U.S. Programs & Advocacy leadership team for program learning and continuous improvement.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree
Skills/Experience: 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 10-15 years' experience in area of expertise, preferably with non-profit organizations in the U.S.  
  • Extensive experience in implementing partnership-based educational programs
  • Comprehensive partnership relationship management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders including advisory groups, coalitions, forums, foundations, corporate sponsors and practitioner groups
  • Remote workforce management skills and experience providing technical and managerial direction to a diverse team of professionals across a wide geography
