Summary
The Manager, Budget & Capacity Building will support financial and operational matters for Save the Children's Head Start programs. The Manager is responsible for supporting local Head Start Finance and Operations Managers with budget management remotely, and in the field, through ongoing training and technical assistance. He/she will serve as the point of contact for financial and operational guidance for field-based admin staff, but will focus on building the capacity of the local program and center staff to manage all financial aspects of their operation independently and with excellence.
What You'll Be Doing (Essential Duties)
Budget Management (40%)
- Support local planning and budgeting process
- Maintain budget forecasting tool for division reporting
- Ensure timesheets are submitted and properly coded, following up and identifying opportunities for training
Capacity Building (40%)
- Assist in the development of the localization strategy for Head Start
- Develop and deliver trainings on financial and operational policies and procedures to field based staff
- Establish solid relationship between field office and home office staff, encouraging cooperation
- Provide advice and support to field-based administrative staff on Save the Children policies and procedures
Compliance (20%)
- Support field in ensuring compliance with Head Start operational and financial regulations
- Build compliance plan, coordinating with operations and field to ensure coverage and buy in across departments
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years finance or operations experience. Nonprofit or Head Start experience a plus.
- Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with Microsoft Excel and demonstrated ability to apply creative ideas for data compilations
- Strong training, communication, and presentation skills with emphasis on coaching, performance monitoring, and tailoring support
- Ability to work with staff at various levels, and to demonstrate the importance of upholding financial policies and procedures
- Strong diplomatic, interpersonal, and team skills. An in-depth understanding and problem-solving approach to financial management as it relates to complex, multifunctional budgets.
- High School diploma required; Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or related field preferred
