Senior Community Health Director

  • Analyze and interpret science, health services, and policy to assess community health needs and effectively articulate the impact of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
  • Evaluate content of health services programs to ensure and facilitate integration of evidence-based approaches to program development.
  • Provide consultation and facilitation of data analysis, evaluation of programs and interpretation of results to identify best practices and innovative ideas/trends to improve community health.
  • Develop, coordinate, and/or implement community-wide strategies and programs based on the American Heart Association 2020 plan.
  • Maintain accountability for the organization and direct management of volunteer networks, strategic alliances and coalitions at the community level as determined by the community health plan and outreach efforts.
  • Collaborate with affiliate and state-level health strategy colleagues to ensure that local opportunities are aligned with the AHA’s agenda at the state and affiliate level.
  • Serve as the health lead for the community and oversee the recruitment and management of select community health program volunteer networks.
  • Provide consultation, guidance and consultation on community health priorities through evidence-based approaches and protocols to internal staff to drive an overall community action plan to achieve health improvement goals.
  • Integrate health strategies and strengthen collaborative efforts across all business functions and be accountable for both health/mission and revenue goals.
  • Coordinate efforts with division/state/affiliate staff across health strategies and development. Provide training, consultation and implementation assistance to local staff on health goals and priorities.
Educational Background: 
Master’s degree in Public Health, Education, or related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • 1 year of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or related occupation in public health, education and/or community health programs.
  • Will also accept a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Education, or related field and 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or related occupation in public health, education and/or community health programs, or any suitable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Experience must include:

  • One year of experience working with community health issues, and the ability to interact across multiple acculturation levels and socio-economic groups.
  • One year of experience recruiting, mobilizing, managing, recognizing and evaluating volunteers, including experience in training others on volunteer management and monitoring progress.
  • Experience in fundraising and maintaining relationships at corporate and community levels.
  • Expertise in multi-tasking, communication, and negotiation using analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • One year of experience in conducting meetings with internal and external clients including interacting with external partners/sponsors representing an organization to the public as necessary.
  • Experience managing large projects ensuring deadline compliance.
  • Ability to accommodate volunteer scheduling needs beyond regular hours.
  • Experience participating in a multi-disciplinary team environment working towards common goals with internal and external clients, including the ability to influence team members without supervisory authority.
  • Experience executing strategic thinking skills in assessing the local community environment and available resources to successfully implement new and existing programs.
