The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Fundraising Director-Educational Sector in our SouthWest Affiliate . This person must reside in San Antonio. Under the direction of the Youth Market Manager, the Fundraising Director-Educational Sector is responsible for implementing the American Heart Association's Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart events. This position works with school based coordinators, (typically the PE Teacher) and the school principal to raise funds through our school based educational fundraising program.

The Fundraising Director- Educational Sector will act as the American Heart Association liaison with superintendents, district staff, and school-based staff in the San Antonio area. Specific counties for this territory are South Bexar County, Medina County, Webb County (Laredo), Atascosa County, Wilson County, Live Oak County, Karnes County, Frio County, Bee County, Uvalde County. This is a large geographic territory and may require occasional overnight travel.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Key responsibilities include selling our lifesaving mission to local schools through prospecting and securing school participation in the Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart programs, providing the tools and training needed to help schools establish and meet fund raising goals, recruiting and managing strong relationships with volunteers, and ensuring overall success of the programs. This position has a fundraising goal this year of approximately $450K net. The selected candidate must exceed challenging fundraising goals by developing effective customer relationships, through time management, persuasion, organization, competitiveness, and persistence.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred
College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree
Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 ½ years experience equates to 1 full time year of higher education
Skills/Experience: 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Ability to work independently and resourcefully.
  • Proven outside sales experience.
  • Applied knowledge and intermediate skills in windows applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to speak publicly.
  • Ability to work outside standard hours as needed, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledge of school systems a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish results through strong volunteer recruitment and management.
  • Ability to set aggressive goals with clients.
  • Highly effective organization, multi-tasking, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a results-driven environment. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 4 years of relevant work experience, including proven success in sales or fundraising.
  • Must have the ability to lift at least 20 lbs from the ground to waist level with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must have at least proficient knowledge and skill with office-related computer programs used for word processing, email, and spreadsheets.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
Compensation/Benefits: 

This position requires you to be in the territory 75% of your time. We offer a yearly salary, a yearly incentive for exceeding the fundraising goals for the position, travel reimbursement and a great benefits package.
