Serving as a partner to the Executive Director and Deputy Director, the Chief of Staff is a new position to MCAN that will ensure key strategic priorities are achieved. The Chief of Staff will provide high-level consultation, advice, leadership, and action, helping to facilitate success across the organization. With particular focus on advocacy, fundraising, partnerships and board support, the Chief of Staff will add capacity and talent to our rapidly-growing team and expanding scope. The Chief of Staff performs a wide range of duties including but not limited to the following:

Help ensure the organization can achieve the priorities and goals laid out in its strategic plan and help monitor progress toward those ends.

Serve as “right hand” support to the Office of the Executive, providing strategic advice, assistance to all departments and provide key administrative follow-up on high-level tasks.

Work directly on MCAN’s policy and advocacy work under the guidance of the Executive Director.
-
Assist in MCAN’s fund development efforts through grant writing, grant seeking, reporting and relationship-building.

Support board relations with MCAN’s Board of Directors, helping to prepare meeting materials, reports and other pieces of information to assist the board in its decision-making and governance.

Provide consultation to partners and internal programs on key priorities including equity, attainment, and impact.

Facilitate meetings and relationships to support MCAN’s strategies and goals.

Represent the Executive Director and/or the Deputy Director when necessary and appropriate.

Manage special projects on an as-needed basis as assigned by the Executive Director.

Encourage and enhance communication internally and externally to build partnerships, relationships and a stronger field.

Contribute to the annual budgeting process and assist the finance staff in ensuring quality finances.

Lead the organization’s annual audit work, managing the efforts of various staff to ensure a clean and timely audit.

Have experience considering the impacts of college access and success on multiple communities, including communities of color and those with low socioeconomic status.

Have experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities in the consideration of impacts and outcomes of a decision-making process.

Prioritize work, multi-task, work independently with minimal supervision, and accurately perform duties in a fast-paced environment.

Have a passion for working in the nonprofit and education sector – especially for postsecondary attainment.

Have strong written communication skills and reflect the tone and messaging of the Michigan College Access Network.

Have extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office products and the Google suite of products as well as knowledge of basic office and communication equipment and software.

Have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

Have a strong and demonstrated commitment to equity.

Have a valid in-state driver license for local travel.

Priority will be given to candidates with:

A Master’s degree in a relevant field.

Experience working with strategy, policy and/or fundraising.
Salary: $70,000 - $90,000
