Director of Individual Giving

Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center is seeking a dynamic, results-oriented fundraising professional to fill the newly created position of Director of Individual Giving. This person will have the unique opportunity of joining Eagle Bluff’s growing Advancement team as the organization builds on the success of its 40+ year history of environmental education and experiential programs. 

 

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Individual Giving will employ best practices and industry knowledge to broaden and deepen Eagle Bluff’s base of individual support: growing our annual fund by developing and implementing proven strategies; creating and implementing planned, legacy, and leadership giving societies; and deepening our relationships with individuals by maintaining a personal portfolio of donors. 

 

The Director of Individual Giving will be a key member of Eagle Bluff’s Advancement team which also includes the Executive Director and the Marketing Director. Collectively, this group shapes and implements Eagle Bluff’s development initiatives—with additional support provided by its Board of Directors.

 

Areas of Responsibility: 

1. Oversee annual fund initiatives.

  • As a member of the Advancement team, design and implement an annual development plan; establish fundraising goals for the organization including specific objectives and strategies for growing individual giving.

  • Implement an annual work plan to achieve individual-giving goals, including: 

  • New and existing donor engagement strategies to increase funding from current and lapsed donors, with a keen focus on moving donors up the giving ladder.

  • Build and manage relationships with prospects and donors through personalized cultivation and outreach efforts including in-person meetings, event invitations, and regular communication and acquisition/stewardship efforts.

  • Identify and create cultivation strategies for top prospects; implement these strategies in conjunction with the Executive Director and Board of Directors. 

  • In conjunction with the Marketing Director:

    • Design and implement a streamlined digital communications program, incorporating key development strategies and messages.

    • Create and manage direct mail and fundraising campaigns.

    • Coordinate regular donor communications, including but not limited to quarterly donor newsletters, email and digital correspondence, annual reports, and gift acknowledgments.

  • Evaluate and, as appropriate, adjust fundraising activities on an ongoing basis.

 

2. Plan and implement special events.

  • In conjunction with the Advancement team, increase donor engagement and cultivation through regular events (annual fundraising banquet, donor appreciation gatherings, etc.)

  • Work with internal departments and external vendors to create successful events; train and supervise event staff and volunteers. 

  • Oversee the design and implementation of an annual fundraising banquet:

    • Co-lead (with the Advancement team) a banquet committee made up of board, staff, and community members.

    • Coordinate securing live and/or silent auction items, selling tickets, and other event fundraising activities.

    • Manage volunteers and act as the lead for the banquet. 

 

3. Support and advance the organization’s comprehensive advancement initiatives.

  • Develop an understanding of Eagle Bluff’s programs, initiatives, and needs.

  • Co-chair the Board Advancement Committee and other committees as needed.

  • Maintain an active presence in the community via attending chamber of commerce events, networking activities and mixers, civic organizations, and other opportunities to engage with current and prospective donors.

  • As applicable, work together with Board committees and consultants to manage capital or other special fundraising campaigns.

  • Provide consistently prompt, friendly customer service to all stakeholders.

 

4. Administrative Duties

  • Manage the Fundraising expense budget.

  • Attends weekly leadership team meetings.

  • Attend quarterly board meetings. 

  • Performs additional work as assigned by the Executive Director.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree
Skills/Experience: 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with minimum three years of experience. The successful applicant will embrace working in a highly collaborative environment at a growth minded organization, who is ready to commit to taking Eagle Bluff’s fundraising to a new level.  

 

  • Dynamic interpersonal skills with ability to effectively engage key prospects and current donors.

  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships with major donors that result in five-plus figure gifts.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong strategic thinking skills, and efficient, timely plan execution.

  • Ability to work and thrive in a team environment.

  • Flexibility and enthusiasm to refine and enhance current systems and operations.

  • Well organized and able to meet goals and deadlines.

  • Must clear background check. 

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with minimum three years of experience in not-for-profit fundraising or management preferred.

 

  • Experience working on a capital or other special campaign

  • Database expertise

Compensation/Benefits: 

$55,000 - $60,000 plus benefits

Additional Information: 

This position has the option for a hybrid work model which can include working from home for a portion of the week and onsite at Eagle Bluff in Lanesboro, MN. Within this flexible approach, we anticipate the person in this position will work onsite on average 1-2 days a week.
