The Manager of the ReStore provides overall managerial leadership for the Lafayette Habitat for Humanity ReStore in accordance with the directives, policies and objectives set by the affiliate. The Habitat ReStore mission is to generate revenue through the sale of
donated, reclaimed and purchased building materials, appliances, furniture and tools to support the mission of Lafayette Habitat for Humanity, which is to build homes, community and hope.

The Manager is responsible for the overall operations of the ReStore and its financial growth.

Areas of Responsibility: 

General Administration

  • Act as the chief administrator responsible for managing all aspects of ReStore operations.
  • Manage the ReStore by directing, training, supervising, and recognizing the paid and volunteer staff in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Management of retail staff and volunteers to provide a high level of customer service.
  • Orient staff and volunteers to the mission of Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore’s role and responsibility.
  • Maintain an organizational culture which attracts, keeps, and motivates staff and volunteers.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and set goals for staff.
  • Provide reports on store performance or strategic projections as needed. These reports could include inventory turnover, discounts, and returns, earnings per store per open hour, earnings paid per employee hour and net cash to organization forecasting.
  • Establish office procedures, guidelines and performance standards.
  • Ensure communication of relevant issues flows among all groups.
  • Ensure the ReStore adheres to government regulations as well as the policies of HFH-QC and HFH International.
  • Ensure a safe working environment for the staff and volunteers.
  • Participate / lead long range planning and visioning.

Financial Management

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of sound financial practices.
  • Interact with the Finance Director to ensure completion of audits and other financial activities.
  • Work with the staff, Executive Committee, and board in preparing a yearly budget. Ensure that the ReStore operates within budget guidelines.
  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of financial projections.
  • Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the ReStore to carry out its mission.
  • Community Relations and Resource Development
  • Serve as spokesperson for the ReStore.
  • Actively participate with appropriate community groups which share the goals of Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore.
  • Coordinate marketing efforts with the Communications Director.
  • Establish and nurture good media relationships.
  • Oversee development and implementation of communications / marketing plan.
  • Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with volunteers, community groups and other organizations.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years’ experience in retail management or other relevant management experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must have demonstrated independent responsibility for program management and accomplishing results by building and leading successful teams.
  • Experience supervising staff required, developing markets and networking plans.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with groups, committees and individuals.
  • Computer skills including MS Office, Quick Books, and website support
  • Requirements/ Skills: Must be able to articulate the mission, values (see below) and goals of Lafayette Habitat for Humanity and of the ReStore. Must be organized, able to meet deadlines, and able to manage projects. Must be able to work effectively with diverse groups of people. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required. Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field, including training provided by Habitat for Humanity International.

Physical Demands

  • This individual will be expected to assist the staff in performing store functions and, therefore, must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Will also experience frequent bending, squatting, lifting and repetitive motion.
  • Ability to work the computer for an extended period of time.
