Lead Africa communications content strategy to delivery high quality content for National Office communications, partnership communications, Support Office marketing and any local fundraising requirements. By being the central point of contact for all Support Office and partnership communications requests of all Africa National Offices, the Senior Manager will develop and project plan the production and delivery of SuperBriefs and content requests, ensuring appropriate technical capacity is available in National Offices to produce international standard high quality and on time content for Support Office marketing, WVI partnership, and local requirements. The Senior Manager will provide high level editorial and production oversight and quality control of all Africa content. The Senior Manager will provide some matrix management leadership to selected National Offices in Africa and support the Regional Directors with internal, executive and staff engagement communications across the region.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide Africa communications content leadership, lead an integrated approach with Support Offices and National Offices in the planning and development of content SuperBriefs and other content requests, including international visits, and project manage the production of these across Africa National Offices.
  • Lead National Office’s strategy to increase technical capacity to produce international quality content for Support Office marketing communications and resource development.
  • Matrix management of selected National Offices (development, non-fragile state contexts).
  • Provide high level editorial and production oversight and quality control to all Africa SuperBrief content for Support Office marketing and partnership requests.
  • Lead regional-level internal and staff engagement communications. Support Regional Directors on executive communications.
Educational Background: 
A university degree in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or other related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Excellent leadership, and project management skills in the communications, production, creative industries.
  • A demonstrable track record of working and managing cross-cultural stakeholders and forging strong partnerships.
  • Excellent technical communications skills in one or more of the following areas; editorial, production, design, journalism.
  • Proven ability to produce high quality multi-media content in role of producer, executive producer, creative director, art director, or director.
  • Strong track record in international development, social justice, non-profit industry, international affairs or politics.
  • Agile work ethic – able to quickly develop, implement, learn, adapt, and change.
  • Ability to identify and understand different audiences and utilise appropriate communication channels and content.
  • Ability to define and strengthen organisational brand awareness and reputation through multiple channels.
  • Experience leading/managing multiple and/or overlapping content production assignments across multiple contexts that engage, compel and demonstrate knowledge, impact and expertise.
  • Proven ability to effectively team and project manage to deliver outcomes on time.
  • Experience working and delivering content across both development and disaster/protracted crises contexts.
  • Fluent English is essential; knowledge of French language is an asset.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • At least 8 years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in communication, broadcast, and/or new media. International work experience. Fieldwork experience preferred. Background/familiarity in emergency context.
  • Leading and supervising, formulating plans and concepts, relating and networking, persuading and influencing, entrepreneurial thinking.
  • Adopts thinking that is informed by context and practice, shows consistency of treatment and a clear outcome focus. Able to select and evaluate information to plan and manage communications for various audiences.
  • Able to enable an efficient, effective and transparent flow of information, across groups and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple requests and prioritise according to strategic needs.
  • Solid/advanced work experience at a similar level, leading communications and content in the humanitarian (NGO or UN) or private sector.

Work Environment/Travel:

  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of the time.
  • This position demands responsiveness to context, openness to working flexibly, and willingness to adjust according to operational realities.
