The Initiative for Hygiene, Sanitation, and Nutrition (IHSAN) is a five-year USAID funded project whose goal is to assisting the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GIRoA), civil society organizations (CSOs), and the private sector to carry out and scale up evidence-based nutrition and water, hygiene, and sanitation (WASH) interventions that will improve the nutritional status of women and children less than five years old.  Specific project objectives include enhancing capacity to institutionalize nutrition programs, increasing adoption of optimal nutrition and hygiene behaviors at community and household levels; and increasing availability of nutrition, hygiene, and sanitation services and products increased.  The project will focus on the 10 provinces with poorest nutritional indicators based on the 2014 national nutrition assessment. Recognizing that significant variations in health situations exist between districts and sub-districts in each province, we will promote improved nutrient intake and awareness and improved sanitation and hygiene practices by working with provincial health authorities and communities to strive toward improved coverage in priority areas. The project will be implemented by FHI360 (as lead) and partners including CHA, IRC, HADAAF, SRTRO and AKF Afghanistan.

The Nutrition Training Manager position aims to build capacity of health workers at all levels to institutionalize nutrition interventions. This position will be overall responsible for the management of the nutrition-training activities at IHSAN project level and will be member of IHSAN management team based in ISHAN project office Kabul with frequent visit from the IHSAN targeted provinces while the operational and contractual issues will be with AKF Afghanistan.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • To lead the training/development team and IHSAN partner’s capacity building staff to assess and conduct proper scanning for nutrition with focus on priorities
  • To do motivation and inspire team and partners to shared vision
  • To take responsibilities and be accountable for achieving results
  • To build  the team spirit and coach to empower them to be change agent for social behavior changes in nutrition
  • To ensure quality efforts and progress to meet indicators
  • To Map and identify key stakeholder for nutrition capacity enhancement
  • To help in assessing current learning packages, develop or adapt training learning packages on nutrition as required
  • To support the training institutions to ensure quality training materials and Learning Resources Packages(LRP) are available
  • To develop training implementation plan with team in view of project plan
  • To coordinate/facilitate the training implementation plan with the respective partners
  • To coordinate/facilitate training of trainers in close coordination with Senior Capacity development advisor and IHSAN partners.
  • To facilitate the nutrition trainings where needed.
  • To ensure quality nutrition trainings for all categories of health workers
  • To make sure post training follow up is in place and ensure quality of trainings and progress against the set target
  • To ensure that training database are up to date and reported to central level on monthly basis
  • To monitor the progress and seek interventions for filling the gaps in capacity development issues
  • To conduct/facilitate training evaluations and provide feedback for improvement
  • To orient the and align team and partner staff on the main activities of the project
  • To organize and align resources toward project main objectives specially the capacity how to institutionalize nutrition interventions.
  • To supervise and provide technical and management support for the project implementation at central and provincial level to ensure quality and sustainability.
  • To coordinate with finance officers on financial management of the project
  • To attend different meetings with other stakeholders as per need
  • To ensure adequately and timely procurement and supply of training materials and tools to the trainers and trainees
  • Prepare progress and results report in view of project plan
  • To advocate for transference in performance
  • To ensure gender equity and gender mainstreaming throughout the project in coordination with ISHAN management team and IHSAN partners
  • To carry out the responsibilities of the role in a way which reflects FHI360/IHSAN’s commitment to protecting children in accordance with the Child Safeguarding Policy.

Occasional Significant Duties:

  • From time to time the nutrition training manager will be required to take on additional duties and tasks as need within the IHSAN management team

DECISION-MAKING & AUTHORITY:

  • Planning, management and execution of the capacity building interventions under IHSAN and supporting the partners for quality training activities.
Educational Background: 
Medical Doctor, Advance degree in nutrition is preferred
Skills/Experience: 

JOB SPECIFICATION /REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least three years of work experience in nutrition projects with well reputed NGOs/agencies
  • At least two years of experience in similar positons (Capacity development)
  • Working knowledge of computer (MS office package) advance knowledge in developing of database is preferred.
  • Good English language skills
  • Good National languages skills (Both Dari and Pashto)
