Ru-WatSIP provides capacity building trainings for rural communities on service delivery, Operation and Maintenance (O&M), Water Safety Plan (WSP) and sustainable use of water supply and sanitation facilities across the country. The Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) is an option which leads to mobilization and behavioral changes throughout the community. It also resulted in bringing down the Open Defecation (OD) almost to zero in the targeted communities declared as ODF.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directly responsible for coordination of the field based sanitation and hygiene programs in his/her related province
  • Liaison between provincial line departments, related agencies, CLTS teams of different NGOs and organizations, DDAs and other stakeholders
  • Identify high priority districts within the province for the implementation of CLTS and hygiene promotion program
  • Coordinate districts and villages identified for CLTS implementation by x organization with other implementing agencies to pave the way for selecting districts/villages where there is no CLTS program running/being implemented (develop coverage map)
  • Assist RuWatSIP and other monitoring/supervision teams guiding them to the field and facilitate/arrange meetings and visits with partners at the provincial level
  • Arrange and call weekly/biweekly and/or monthly coordination meetings at the provincial level with the related agencies and share progress, obstacles, lesson learnt, opportunity and way forward for enhancing coverage and achieving the objectives
  • Keep records/minutes of the meetings, follow up the action points of the meeting and sustaining the series of coordination mechanism · Observe/assist health, hygiene & sanitation trainings at the provincial level
  • Reporting
  • Involved in the implementation of Knowledge Attitude Practice (KAP) survey at the target areas
  • Work closely (jointly) with the CLTS/sanitation provincial/regional officer for mutual support
  • Accomplish the given assignments appropriately and in timely manner
  • Carry out any other assignment as advised by the supervisor

Educational Background: 
The provincial sanitation coordinator should have at least bachelor degree from a recognized institute 
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least three years of relevant experience with recognized agency
  • Experience in CLTS and Family Health Action Groups is favorable 
  • Familiarity with cultures of different Afghan communities
  • Very good interpersonal communication skills
  • Good managerial and leadership skills
  • Ability to call, manage and chair meetings
  • Report writing skills
  • Team work
  • Must be computer literate and familiar with basic computer software including MS Office and internet use 
  • Ability to travel to districts and villages of the target province
  • Must be able to communicate well in Pashto, Dari and English
