The Director of Development (DoD) is responsible for directing all aspects fundraising (corporations & high net worth individual/HNWI) within Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara (YKAN), which will secure significant financial resources to support conservation goals, through innovative initiatives. S/he is someone comfortable in making direct asks, perseverance, innovative, and comfortable around higher management (CEO level, owners).
The Director of Development (DoD) will work towards meeting the strategic priorities of the program by conceiving, developing, and managing plans and strategies. They focus on long-range strategic priorities, advance the Conservancy’s goals, and communicate a broad vision to others. They establish and monitors activity level benchmarks and measures of success. They manage the development and implementation of a strategic, integrated, and collaborative approach to maximize success, including organizing communications. They facilitate strategic dialogues with clients and senior-level stakeholders probing to identify key issues and requirements, negotiating and developing solutions, and synthesizing a plan of action tailored to audience. They will direct diverse activities, develop complex practices and processes, project outcomes, and initiate changes in order to improve effectiveness. They manage priority vendor relationships. The DoD works closely with and manages relations with key stakeholders including senior management, internal teams, donors, and volunteers to achieve program goals. They may be responsible for presenting analysis and recommendations to the Board of Directors committees.

Strategic Leadership
- Leads the development and implementation of long-term fundraising strategy that underpins strategic goals to accelerate revenue growth in a sustainable manner across a diverse range of revenue streams.
- Provides strategic leadership to a number of experienced and dedicated fundraising/philanthropy team ensuring the agreed established goals are achieved and aligned to the global philanthropy strategy and priorities.
- Builds a high performing team, develops technical capacity of team.
- Develops and implements cutting edge fundraising strategies in a high-profile philanthropic market.
Sustainability and diversified Fundraising
- Grows fundraising revenue to support the Conservancy’s works in a sustainable manner.
- Establishes a range of new revenue streams, through various innovative fundraising strategies and initiatives.
Relationship Management
- Builds strong relationships with internal and external senior stakeholders to support
- Fundraising.
- Works closely with the leadership team, board and trustees to capitalize networks and connections.
- Build relationships with high-value potential corporations and individual donors.
This position reports to the Country Director and is based in Jakarta.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Accountable for annual fundraising goals following the established annual targets.
- Broad management responsibility for a department and administrative and/or professional staff, including recruitment, retaining, professional development, establishing clear directions, and setting “stretch” objectives.
- Design and direct complex and diversified projects, coordinating the work of other professionals, managing budget, and ensuring program accountability.
- Develop and administer budget and fundraising objectives, evaluates results and develops corrective strategies as needed.
- Direct or participate in negotiations for complex, high profile or sensitive agreements.
- Ensure that programmatic commitments, YKAN/TNC policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for ethical compliance.
- Lead strategic initiatives through collaboration with senior-level stakeholders in order to enhance overall performance in accordance with short and long-term objectives.
- Maintain confidentiality of frequently sensitive and emotionally charged information.
- Make strategic decisions; decisions made may have program-wide impact and may bind the organization financially or legally.
- Plan and lead new programs/initiatives that will ensure department and organization-wide goals are achieved.
- Responsibility and accountability for meeting strategic goals and objectives.
- Travel frequently and on short notice, work long hours and weekends.
- Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements minor physical exertion and/or strain.
- Experience asking for and closing donations or will be comfortable making pitches in person and personally asking people for donations. Alternatively, experience in marketing & sales in services industries managing clients from corporations and high-net-worth individual.
- Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents such as high net worth individual donors, foundations and corporations.
- Experience in planning and delivering budgetary responsibilities.
- Experience managing and supervising a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience working in a large, complex, not-for-profit international environment.
- Possessing network to high-value potential corporations and individuals.
- Experience, coursework, or other training in principles, practices, and procedures of relevant field.
- Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and English, both oral and written.
- Is authorized working in Indonesia.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in working with international setting with multi-cultural bacground.
- Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English.
- Experience in fundraising or sales and marketing required, with a demonstrated track record of success in raising donations/major gifts and writing complex proposals for various audiences, including corporations, foundations, or parallel experience in sales and marketing with benchmarks such as demonstrated responsibility, initiative, and success in a sales/marketing/proposal writing environment.
- Advanced understanding of best practices in non-profit management.
- Effectively communicate via presentations, conversations, and documents.
- Experience managing a geographically dispersed team.
- Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in philanthropy/fundraising (networks of philanthropist and solicitation).
- Knowledge of advanced gift planning concepts.
- Proficiency in synthesizing materials from multiple sources into a coherent and accurate summary.
- Experience working with dashboards and PMO.
