The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Warrior Wellness Alliance (WWA) Connector provides support to the Bush Institute’s Warrior Wellness Alliance and its peer network members by screening veterans affected by the invisible wounds of war such as PTSD, TBI (mild, moderate and severe), depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges, and connecting them to the appropriate clinical providers within the WWA, or to WWP programs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Collaborate with the Bush Institute’s Warrior Wellness Alliance (WWA) peer network leaders and volunteers to connect veterans in need of high-quality mental health care to clinical providers within the WWA or WWP programs as appropriate.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for WWA peer network members and respond to requests to conduct screenings and needs assessments.
  • Perform comprehensive screenings and conduct needs assessments of referred veterans’ mental health.
  • Triage referrals and directly coordinate warm handoffs to clinical providers within the WWA to ensure veterans receive the most appropriate high-quality care.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in WWP and WWA resources to better facilitate the connection of veterans to clinical care and enhance their mental health and well-being.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert and trainer for suicide prevention training. As a certified trainer, deliver and facilitate Mental Health First Aid, SafeTALK, ASIST, and related initiatives.
  • Conduct veteran outreach activities as needed.
  • Maintain efficacy of the WWA Connections program. Identify trends to assist in ongoing process improvements and with strategic program decision making.
  • Prepare regular and ad hoc reports and communications for WWP Mental Health leadership and assigned WWA partners to keep all informed of Connections program progress.
  • Maintain current and accurate data in the Combined Arms CRM, Salesforce, and EchoLink platforms, in accordance with established timelines and program procedures.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Master’s degree in social work, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, case management, or related mental health field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated understanding of psychological and mental health issues.
  • Demonstrated understanding of military and veteran issues, and the emotional impact of combat-related trauma, e.g., brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and combat stress.
  • Demonstrated proficiency to deliver and facilitate Mental Health First Aid, SafeTALK, ASIST, and related training initiatives.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills. Ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals and build effective relationships. Demonstrated emotional intelligence. Ability to respond to sensitive matters with diplomacy and empathy. Demonstrated understanding of relationship management and partnering.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Responsive to requests and demonstrated follow-through on commitments.
  • Demonstrated understanding of both Wounded Warrior Project and the Bush Institute’s Warrior Wellness Alliance mission, values, programs, and services.
  • Strong presentation skills. Confident communicator with demonstrated ability to present information effectively, e.g., to large audiences, small groups, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish credibility, be decisive, influence others, and influence change.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Effectively complete assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to travel in support of WWP and WWA programs and outreach.
  • High energy level. Self-starter; willing to take initiative.

  • Three years of experience working with veteran-focused mental health programming or case management and assisting military and veteran populations in support of their mental health and well-being.
  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time. 

Preferences

  • Five years of veteran-focused mental health programming or case management experience and assisting military and veteran populations in support of their mental health and well-being.
  • Five years of experience working with brain injury and mental health case management.
  • Two years of experience implementing programs in a social services or health services environment.

Certifications & Licensure

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Mental Health Counselor preferred.
