The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Warrior Care Network Deputy Director serves as the operational lead for the Warrior Care Network program, and establishes relationships and works collaboratively with the Academic Medical Centers’ (AMCs) leadership, the AMCs’ operational teams, the Warrior Care Network staff, and WWP leadership to maintain the strategic vision of the Warrior Care Network and to yield successful treatment of warriors. The WCN Deputy Director is responsible for global program operations management and oversight related to AMC contractual compliance, data reporting, and achieving key performance indicators (KPIs).

Note: Warrior Care Network is a partnership between Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) and four national academic medical centers (AMC) of excellence. In cooperation with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), this program connects thousands of warriors with world-class care to battle the invisible wounds of war by filling gaps in government care and reaching those who may otherwise go untreated.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage and execute every aspect of the Warrior Care Network (WCN) global program operations management. Provide oversight for Academic Medical Centers’ (AMCs) contractual compliance, for data reporting, and for achieving key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Lead and manage a team of Warrior Care Network specialists and mentor them and develop their skills and abilities. Promote a supportive working environment where team members are encouraged to proactively address issues and solve problems. Manage both team and individual performance to achieve goals.
  • Build effective working relationships with the Academic Medical Centers’ (AMCs) leadership and operational leads and directors to maintain the strategic vision of the Warrior Care Network®.
  • Provide management oversight and collaboration on hospital integration, risk management, schedule management for contractual deliverables, communications planning, stakeholder management, performance management, and governance oversight for network committees with respect to the academic medical centers’ contractual compliance and data analytics through third-party providers.
  • Oversee all Warrior Care Network deliverables, e.g., Warrior Care Network committee work group projects, development and refinement of the process flow for Warrior Care Network referrals, and triage and follow-on support.
  • Ensure timely referrals and delivery of services through process-driven workflows to yield successful treatment of warriors at the medical center-level.
  • Collaborate with WWP marketing team and across organizational lines to assist the WCN Director with the development and implementation of strategies to maximize the quantity and quality of appropriate WWP Alumni referrals to the AMCs.
  • Mobilize resources for staff and partners to achieve expected Warrior Care Network deliverables within the contractually prescribed timeframe.
  • Coordinate efforts between Wounded Warrior Project and the AMCs to ensure continuity of care for patients after program completion, and ensure accurate data capture for the Warrior Care Network®.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with AMC leadership to facilitate information flow.
  • Oversee data and documentation warehousing for the WCN database.
  • Collaborate with WWP teammates, AMC leaders, and third-party providers to obtain required data for presentations, quarterly metrics reviews, marketing materials, and resource development initiatives.
  • Represent the Warrior Care Network Director and the Mental Health Vice President in matters related to the WCN, e.g., meetings, phone conferences, and public events as required.
  • Provide high-level mentorship to the Warrior Care Network specialists, focusing on the development of individual program management skills, program evaluation skills, presentation skills, and career progression.
  • Manage budget, timelines, and administrative duties for the AMCs’ contract management.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Master’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, human performance, or a related healthcare field, or business administration (MBA), health administration (MHA), or public administration (MPA).
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated understanding of military and veteran issues, and the emotional impact of combat, e.g., brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and combat stress, and particularly with Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. Demonstrated understanding of psychological and mental health issues. Demonstrated understanding of the challenges faced by warriors affected by trauma.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead with strategic vision and generate big-picture content and program structure.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills with a strong ability to lead in a dynamic and fluid environment.
  • Strong working understanding of WWP programs and other resources available for families and warriors.
  • Demonstrated understanding of healthcare environments.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Eight years of experience in healthcare delivery, healthcare management, healthcare administration, or in healthcare project management and program evaluation.
  • Eight years of staff management experience.
  • Four years of experience managing contracts.
  • Four years in healthcare program management, i.e., program design, development, and administration.

Preferences

  • Master’s degree in business administration or healthcare administration, with an emphasis on healthcare operations, healthcare economics, or healthcare business analytics.
  • Five years of experience working with and providing support to wounded service members who are dealing with both visible and invisible injuries, e.g., brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, and combat stress.
  • Five years of experience managing projects, including data management.
