The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Soldier Ride Coordinator–Bike Tech services bicycles, adaptive cycling and sports equipment for WWP Soldier Ride events, assists with Soldier Ride event coordination and logistics, provides cycling instruction to warriors, and physically pushes warriors who are participating in the Solder Ride events using adaptive sports or upright equipment.

Note: Soldier Rides are three-to-five full-day rides geared towards warriors of all abilities and with adaptive and standard cycling equipment provided.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Collaborate with the Soldier Ride team to plan, organize, coordinate, and facilitate events, under management supervision.
  • Coordinate technical support, bike inventories, supply and gear, and supply and gear support for Soldier Ride events.
  • Serve as WWP subject matter expert on cycling and adaptive cycling, and gear and equipment.
  •  Instruct warriors on proper cycling etiquette and skills during group events. Coach warriors during group cycling events.
  • Travel to and participate in soldier ride events.
  • Push cyclists who are using adaptive sports equipment.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of all equipment on rides.
  • Develop and conduct adaptive cycling clinics and challenge rides with adaptive cycling programs to encourage warriors to become physically active and remain active.
  • Serve as a mentor to warriors and provide positive reinforcement on rides. Build mutual respect with warriors and encourage them to continue in their recovery.
  • Assist with delivery of pre-ride meetings, explain the code of conduct, policies, and procedures, and explain the expectations of warriors on the ride and how warriors represent their service as well as WWP when participating in rides.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the rides operational plan.
  • Perform ride coordination and logistical tasks as assigned by management. Assist with implementation or logistical coordination of WWP events as needed.
  • Establish effective working relationships and work collaboratively with WWP teammates.
  • Comply with WWP and Soldier Ride program standard operating procedures.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
High school diploma or GED.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong mechanical competence, with demonstrated ability to properly maintain and service bicycles and adaptive cycles and equipment.
  • Demonstrated intermediate-level cycling fitness.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain the pace of the group during Solider Rides and to support warriors needing assistance during the ride.
  • Demonstrated ability to push cyclists using adaptive sports equipment during Soldier Rides.
  • Ability to travel to attend Soldier Ride events in support of WWP programs and services.
  • Good organizational and time management skills. Effectively complete assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach warriors to help them achieve their goals.
  • Demonstrated understanding of relationship management and partnering. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain professional relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.  Ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals and build effective working relationships. Demonstrated emotional intelligence. Ability to respond to sensitive matters with diplomacy and empathy. Demonstrated ability to build rapport with warriors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional demeanor and high standards of conduct to represent WWP.
  • Computer proficiency using Microsoft Office software.
  • Unequivocal commitment to the highest standards of personal and business ethics and conduct.
  • High energy level. Self-starter; willing to take initiative.

  • Two years of cycling experience at the intermediate level.
  • Two years of experience servicing bicycles and adaptive sports equipment.
  • Two years of experience instructing others on proper cycling skills and cycling etiquette.

Preferences

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years of group cycling experience, including coaching warriors and pushing cyclists using adaptive sports equipment.
  • Three years of experience working with military or veteran populations.

Certifications & Licensure

  • Valid state-issued driver’s license.
