Deputy Executive Director

We have an excellent opportunity for Deputy Executive Director of our Dallas office, reporting to the Executive Director for that office. The Dallas market is the top fundraising market in the nation for the AHA, with responsibility for the largest Heart Walk and Heart Ball events in the country. This position works with the highest level executives in the Dallas area. Overall responsibilities will be to operationalize the vision, management of staff, and implementation of strategic priorities, and volunteer and employee engagement plans. The primary qualities and areas of strength we need from the individual in this role are:

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and selling large sponsorships and general fundraising prowess
  • Direct experience with managing at least ten staff, specifically fundraising staff.
  • Skill and experience in managing office operations in the areas of hiring, managing staff, employee relations, and staff compensation/recognition. Additionally, experience with managing financial aspects of running the local office and interfacing with AHA systems and reports to make decisions and allocate resources.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5-7 years proven and successful managerial experience in non-profit fundraising, staff management, and volunteer management in a similar organization.
  • Ability to prepare and manage operating budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure corporate donations through participating in and leading top level sponsorship asks.
  • Strategic agility and adaptability are competencies needed for the position.
  • Strong knowledge of the Dallas area and surrounding area business, medical, and philanthropic communities or the ability to quickly become acclimated.
  • Proven ability to manage special event fundraising timelines and details to coach staff be successful, track and monitor progress to goals, w senior management informed of progress and areas for additional attention.
  • Collaborative approach to working with other internal partners.
  • Candidates must be results driven with the ability to multi task, and must also be willing and able to travel frequently within the Dallas area.
  • Organization, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills are a must.
  • Must have at least basic knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office 2013 used for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets.
  • Must have the ability to lift at least 20lbs from the ground to waist level with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
