Summary
The Home Visitor is responsible for education, family engagement and family advocacy to families in an assigned caseload by providing comprehensive services during home visits and socialization activities assuring regulatory and legal compliance with federal, state and local regulations and communications with parents. The Home Visitor works in tandem with the entire functionality of the Head Start system, and is an integrated team member assisting in supporting the goals of the program.
The Head Start Home Visitor reports directly to the Home Base Specialist, Manager or Center Director. The Head Start Home Visitor is responsible for creating and nurturing strong partnerships with families and ensuring that program standards, compliance, and quality are of the highest standards.
As a front line representative of Save the Children, The Head Start Home Visitor is required to ensure the safety and security of children and families that he/she comes in contact with, adhering to the agency’s values of Accountability, Ambition, Collaborations, Creativity, and Integrity.

Responsibilities and Impact
Responsible for the weekly preparation of education and family curriculum plans, which includes objectives to be developed in tandem with parents.
- Conduct home visits to facilitate the delivery of Head Start services.
- Maintains documentation as required by agency.
Works with families to plan and implement learning experiences advancing the intellectual and physical development of children.
- Implements systems to assure program’s needs for parent involvement are met; establishes positive and productive relationships with families focusing on a relationship of trust and rapport with the child and their families.
- Conduct on- going assessments and evaluations and make the appropriate and needed referral for families.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Background and Experience, Skills and Behaviors
- Minimum of Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. Preferred qualification is an AA/BA degree in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field.
- Experience in working directly with families in effort to effectively engage families, strengthen parent-child relationships, and support families in addressing challenges.
- Experience in an Early Childhood Classroom setting and/or with early aged children is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; great problem solving and time management skills. Ability to follow directions and take initiative.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff and community partners in the provision of high quality services to children and families and in a group setting.
- Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 5-10 pounds constantly, performing such activities as sitting, crawling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping. This also includes some duties that require repetitive action and motion skills, keyboarding and computer use.
Clear criminal records check (including child abuse registry check if required by state regulations) and pass all state and local health requirements required post job offer and prior to employment. To drive agency vehicles (if applicable), must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Save the Children Head Start insurance carrier and have a Motor Vehicle Record acceptable to Save the Children Head Start. Current and former Head Start/Early Head Start parents will receive preference for employment vacancies for which they are qualified.
