Vice President, Heart Ball

The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Vice President, Heart Ball in our Houston office responsible for our annual Heart Ball. This position will be responsible for directing and collaborating with internal staff, corporations, and community leaders to maximize efficiency, effectiveness, and fund raising efforts. He or she will be accountable for revenue generation and community development activities for the Houston area as well as managing top corporate accounts, securing cause sponsorships, identifying and recruiting volunteer leadership, board development, and for holding others accountable to their fundraising goals and objectives. This position requires a self-starter who functions independently with minimal supervision and will manage and supervise assigned staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop and implement agreed-upon goals and objectives for the area in order to enhance the efficiency of the revenue generation, programs, and community mobilization activities of the Affiliate.
  • Direct and manage programs, revenue generation and volunteer development. In conjunction with field staff, oversee the activities of the area.
  • Monitor and evaluate territory income performance through development of monthly campaign reports, the annual fundraising campaign plan, end of year reports, and needed campaign monitoring tools.
  • Manage/supervise assigned staff. Recruit, interview, hire, orient, provide training as appropriate, evaluate, counsel, provide discipline as needed, and terminate as necessary.
  • Meet with staff on a regular basis to review the status of goals and objectives and to recommend changes or approaches which will enhance the efficiency and the effectiveness of its program activity, revenue generation and public information efforts.
  • Serve as staff liaison between assigned field territory and the Affiliate in order to ensure implementation of common goals and to promote a harmonious working relationship.
  • Serve as a member of the Affiliate’s Senior Revenue Team (SRT) and Management Team (AMT). Attend meetings and provide leadership and guidance.
  • Consistently monitor, evaluate and trouble-shoot Development & Field Support activities throughout assigned territory to ensure appropriate contingency plans are identified and implemented.
  • Assure that Affiliate policies are adhered to in the field territories and goals are achieved in a timely fashion.
  • Perform other duties and special assignments as assigned.
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated experience, skills or aptitude in sales and/or marketing.
  • Skill in effective oral communications including conversing by telephone and conducting presentations to large and small groups.
  • Skill in effective written communications, including business writing, clear and concise narrative reports, evaluations and other narrative pieces.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years’ experience with the American Heart Association or similar voluntary non-profit agency in development positions with progressive growth.
  • Proven experience in management, staff development and coaching, and volunteer management.
  • Extraordinary communication skills and event management experience is required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have the ability to lift at least 20 lbs. from the ground to waist level with or without reasonable accommodation.
