On August 25, 2017, Hurricane Harvey blew ashore as the most powerful hurricane to hit Texas in more than 50 years. In the immediate aftermath of the storm, Save the Children was on the ground, helping kids cope and working with partners to begin the long road toward recovery. As we shift towards long-term recovery programs, Save the Children is seeking a Coordinator, Resource Development to support our private and public fundraising efforts in Texas.
The Coordinator, Resource Development will work from Save the Children’s Houston field office in close collaboration with other members of the long-term recovery team. S/he will report to the Director, Resource Development (based in Fairfield, CT). Strong cross-functional teamwork is required across multiple sections of Save the Children: fundraising, finance, communications, programs, etc.
Private Fundraising Support (70%)
- Maintain close working relationships with Save the Children’s national Resource Development teams (Individual Philanthropy Group, Corporate Partnerships and Strategic Foundation Partnerships, collectively the “Resource Development team”) to maximize resources and fundraising opportunities for Save the Children’s long-term recovery programs in Texas.
- Serve as the primary liaison with the Resource Development team for fundraising inquiries related to Save the Children’s work in Texas, including but not limited to:
- Researching and writing original content for concept notes, proposals, reports, fact sheets, and other special donor communications projects
- Scheduling donor visits to the field
- Research and identify individual, foundation and corporate prospects (6 and 7-figure giving capacity); rate and prioritize prospects in terms of inclination and capacity to give; propose cultivation and stewardship strategies in collaboration with the Resource Development team.
- Monitor and review databases (e.g., Blackbaud/BBEC) and internal reports of donations, pledges, interactions, etc. for accuracy and completion.
Public Fundraising Support (20%)
- Work in partnership with USPA’s public fundraising team to research, identify and qualify funding opportunities from local and state sources.
- Provide assistance with government grant application materials.
Cross Divisional, Cross Agency Efforts (10%)
- Act as a liaison with other areas of Resource Development, finance, donor services and USPA to share information about our long-term recovery programs and fundraising efforts in Texas.
Required Qualifications
- You have a minimum 2-3 years' experience in area of expertise
- Exceptional customer-service and interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Ability to work productively and proactively, both independently and within a cross-functional team environment.

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree a plus
- Familiarity with philanthropic and business communities in Texas is a strong plus
