The Safety and Volunteer Manager is responsible for all aspects of the Safety Program and Volunteer Program. This includes the recruitment, processing, selection, orientation, retention, and coordination of all Habitat volunteers, including construction volunteers, ReStore volunteers, committee members and other supportive volunteers. This position works closely with all staff members to ensure that all levels of volunteers have a positive, safe and productive experience.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Development

  • Work with staff and Committee Chairs to identify volunteer needs of the organization.
  • Recruit volunteers to fill positions and coordinate volunteers to execute activities.
  • Coordinates and communicates with sponsors, churches, corporations, community groups and individuals to schedule, organize and prepare volunteers to build on several active build sites four days each week, year round.
  • Collaborates with internal departments to provide support and handle logistics for building activities with sponsors, partners and for special events.
  • Serves as the liaison between partners, sponsors, partner families, internal departments, the construction site staff, Committee Chairs and volunteers.
  • Responsible for promoting the Food Sponsor and Adopt-A-Day program and coordinating and executing all activities to host groups.
  • Coordinates travel arrangements, lodging, meals and activities for major sponsors.
  • Greets and orients sponsors and volunteers on the construction sites on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
  • Attend and represent BAHFH at volunteer recruitment fairs, events and speaking engagements.
  • Maintains current documentation for volunteers and records all volunteer activity in the database.
  • Ensures implementation of volunteer policies, procedures and the Volunteer Appreciation Program.
  • Maintain volunteer HUB up-to-date and list all volunteer opportunities in our FB and other social media.

Safety Program

  • Designs, develops and implements the organization’s Safety Plan and Program by training employees and volunteers on safe practices and standards consistent with current OSHA regulations and Habitat for Humanity International policies.
  • Researches, performs and leads monthly safety meetings for all Construction Supervisors and House Leaders.
  • Maintains current safety practices, continues to develop the safety program and keeps the Safety Policy & Program Handbook and documents up to date.
  • Remains current with safety regulations and policies, develops documents and practices as needed, and provides external safety training opportunities for the staff to attend.

Special Events

  • Provides leadership on special events, including Women Walk, Community Builders Breakfast, Major Donor Recognition Luncheon, and Volunteer Recognition Luncheon in terms of strategy, program, execution, goals and budget.
  • In conjunction with Development Team, leads the process of researching, nominating and securing special event volunteer leadership and honorees in collaboration with staff and Fund Development Committee.
  • Recruits volunteer committees/task group members; leads volunteer meetings and works with volunteers to communicate and achieve goals.
  • Recommends and executes event programs to include venue, mission messaging, speakers, run of show/script and entertainment, as well as pre-planning and on-site logistical details including banqueting, audiovisual equipment, décor, entertainment, auctions and volunteers.
  • Creates and manages special event solicitation plan and solicitations/invites including in-person, mail, e-mail and phone solicitation.
  • Prospects regularly with in-person visits to individual donors and prospects for support for special events and other fund development initiatives, in cooperation with the Fund Development staff.
  • Acts as principal liaison to area venues and vendors for special events.

Miscellaneous Duties

  • Support affiliate’s communication and marketing plan.
  • Produce monthly progress report and statistical report.
  • Take photos of construction progress and special events.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree
Skills/Experience: 

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Commitment to Habitat mission and ability to work with people of all races, faiths and backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs preferred.
  • Prior experience with Habitat for Humanity is helpful.
  • Three years of experience in volunteer coordination with a non-profit organization desirable.
  • Knowledge of residential construction and safe work practices and regulations ideal.
  • Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and coordinate numerous activities and groups of people.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate respectfully and effectively.
  • Able to track information and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to act and work independently as well as with a team.
  • Patience and ability to work effectively with volunteers, possess a positive and welcoming spirit at all times and be able to interact with diverse groups of people.
  • Comfortable with public speaking opportunities and sharing the PPHFH mission and ministry with large and small groups of volunteers, potential volunteers and community members.
  • Proficient in Spanish is an asset but not required.
