Summary

The Education Manager(s) will be responsible for the overall day-to-day management of all Early Education (ED) programs in the established region and will be the technical focal point for Caseworkers in their region. The position will report to the Early Education and Child Care Director.  These positions are located in both East and Central Coastal and Houston Texas.

 

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

PARTNERSHIPS: The Education Manager will identify and build strategic partnerships, in collaboration with the DTL, Education Director, and with education partners (including school boards, childcare networks, after-school programs, etc.) to support in assessment and identification of critical unmet needs.

 

ASSESSMENTS: The Education Manager, coordinating with Caseworkers and the Early Education and Child Care Director will assess education facilities serving our target age-range including schools, pre-kindergarten programs, Head Start programs, childcare programs, community organizations, and out-of-school time programs/summer camps.

PROGRAM PLANNING, TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENTS: The Education Manager will contribute to the development of the childcare and school response and individual recovery plan, identifying criteria for program support, locations and map the providers in affected area. He/she will work in close collaboration with other program staff and the Education Director to ensure an integrated program. The Education Manager will provide on-going capacity building to the Caseworkers and program staff in their region, child care providers and education partners.

FINANCE AND BUDGETING: The Education Manager, in collaboration with the recovery team, will manage the sub grant process for any education partners (child care, schools, or community organizations). The Education Manager will contribute to developing a program budget, in close collaboration with the recovery team.

STAFF MANAGEMENT: The Education Manager will manage the caseworkers assigned to conduct on-site assessments, develop individualized recovery plans and maintain relationships with child care providers/schools. He/she will provide information to the Education Director to inform staff scheduling and ensure staff have appropriate wellness (days off and balance). The Education Manager will coach, mentor and support the caseworkers.

DISTRIBUTIONS OF PROCURED ITEMS AND GIFTS IN KIND: In coordination with the Education Director and Operations teams, the Education Manager will manage GIK requests and distributions for child care/education programs, and will ensure, in close collaboration with the response finance team, that all policies and procedures for GIK and procured items are followed. The Education Manager will be responsible for compiling the purchase orders for the various education teams and submit to the logistics officer as per requested by response operations protocol.

CHILD SAFEGUARDING & INCEDENT TRACKING: Education Manager, in collaboration with the Director of Education and Child Care Recovery, will develop the Standard Operating Procedure for Child Safeguarding for the response and provide training(s) for the Education team. Uphold Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding Policy as well as principles of do no harm and confidentiality.

MONITORING, EVALUATION, ACCOUNTABILITY AND LEARNING (MEAL): in collaboration with the DTL, Education Director and MEAL Coordinator, the Education Manager will support accountability mechanisms – including the feedback mechanism, stakeholder engagement meetings – to document program impact or areas for improvement.

The Education Manager will also write their region-specific piece of the weekly situation report and maintain the Education numbers for the output tracker, entering beneficiary and program details on a daily basis.

Required Qualifications

  • You have a minimum 3 years' experience in Early Childhood Education and Programming.
  • Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education, Business, Marketing, Social Work or related field in a relevant subject.
  • Must reside in an area with daily travel to Beaumont areas.
  • Strong background in grant management.
  • Experience working with other NGOs and coordinating work against a strategy
  • Excellent skills in advocating towards government agencies, community partners, and communities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for a wide range of different audiences including journalists, beneficiaries, and the ‘general public’.
  • An initiative-taking, proactive, inspiring attitude with the ability to manage and prioritize an unpredictable workload and solve problems quickly with needed support.
  • Experience of delivering training, presentations and other capacity building activities to varied audiences.
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience line managing staff

 

Preferred Qualifications

Desirable

  • Master’s Degree is Early Childhood Education, Business, Marketing, Social Work or related field in a relevant subject.
  • Prior experience in child care recovery in an emergency response context.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Spoke person experience across a range of media.
