The Communications Director will set and guide the strategy for all communications, website, and public relations messages and collateral to consistently articulate Houston Habitat for Humanity’s mission. The Director will create and maintain a favorable public image for Houston Habitat by representing HHFH to the media, creating and executing public relations, marketing and communications programs. The Communications Director supports HHFH’s mission, vision, and values by exhibiting a strong commitment to our community, social perceptiveness collaboration, innovation, respect, accountability and ownership.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, and HHFH’s website
- Generate and manage online content; strategic planning of social media messaging and engagement with integrations into the HHFH web site to enhance the image, raise funds, and promote events and programs of HHFH and the HHFH ReStore
- Manage all media contact; handle press relations, including content creation, promotion and tracking, and image protection
- Management and preparation of image/brand initiatives of and respond to concerns that may impact the positive image of HHFH
- Assist Executive Director in communications with staff, Board, sponsors, volunteers and general public
- Work closely with the management team within the organization as the communications partner on a variety of strategic initiatives
- Collaborate with other staff as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Business, Marketing or related field
Skills/Experience:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
- At least five years’ experience in Communications or related field involving meeting agreed upon goals and objectives, working with a team, developing programs, and stewarding results of efforts
- Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies, along with the ability to work well with other employees
- Knowledge of current social media platforms and interactive marketing
- Strong writing, editing, and public speaking and leadership skills
- Good time management, analytical and organizational skills
- Attention to detail and ability to set and adhere to schedules
- Ability to adapt quickly to change without losing sight of longer-term priorities
- Ability to work extended hours, including some weekends and evenings
- Ability to work independently and on a team
- Willingness to engage in “hands-on” work as needed to meet objectives
- Event planning and management skills a plus
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud
- Website management a plus
- Fundraising database experience a plus
- Ability to speak Spanish a plus
