Job Description

Job Title: Accounting Assistant
Reports to: Controller
Type: Hourly Non-exempt

MISSION
Houston Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to eliminate substandard housing in the city of Houston by helping low to moderate income families or individuals to purchase a simple, decent home in which to live and raise their children.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Log in ALL Donation or Operational funds into cash received log in Excel.
  • Log in Rental checks into the Rental Log in Excel.
  • Log in and Track all Gift Card usage and reconcile the related homes or expenses that Gift Cards are used for.
  • Make bank deposits for HHfH and FHDC as needed.
  • Assist with copying, mailing, documenting and filing for finance and mortgage departments.
  • Reconcile all General Ledger accounts for all Assets, Liabilities and Expenses as assigned.
  • Post various journal entries to the Accounting System.
  • Post Gift in Kind Journals for items required to book to financials.
  • Assist with Reconcile Daily Restore Reports and Post daily Restore Sales entries to Newstar.
  • Reconcile Bank Accounts/Bank Statements as needed.
  • Post Home Sale journals.
  • Assist with Post Daily Mortgage entries from Loan Base to Newstar.
  • Assist with Reconcile General Ledger for all Mortgage Related Accounts Monthly.
  • Reconcile and Track All Donations and their purpose.
  • Reconcile and maintain hard files, home cost ledgers and reconciliations to general ledger for all Assets/Property Owned: Land, Land Under Developments, Engineering and Development, Lots, CIP/WIP for all lots and homes under construction, repair and home improvement projects.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly Financial Reports.
  • Assist with Audit and Budget Prep. and Monitoring Budget to Actuals.
  • Serve as a translator for the mortgage department.
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Three to five years recent accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of Accounting Principles, GAAP Accounting, Non-Profit Accounting, General Ledger and Job Costing.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills required.
  • Good analytical & organizational skills.
  • Good time management with ability to set and manage priorities.
  • Ability to work alone or in a team.
  • A sense of community service and helping others.
