JOB DESCRIPTION
Construction Assistant/Equipment Operator
Qualifications:
  • Have experience operating various types of construction equipment: excavator, backhoe, skid steer, forklift, tractor, lawnmower, etc.
  • Have the ability to read and follow house plans, site plans, other plans related to the construction process.
  • Have good people skills and relate well to people of business, trades, government, the faith community, and the local community.

  • Must be goal-driven, results-oriented and committed to the organization’s effort to increase its ability to have a positive impact on the County’s substandard and affordable housing challenges.
  • Must have an understanding of the mission, history, values and goals of our Christian organization and be able to communicate this information to diverse groups of potential donors and volunteers.
  • Must demonstrate strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member with staff and volunteers is essential.
Reports to: Site Supervisor

Hours of Duty
This is a Full-Time Exempt position. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time or as needed based on work flow and volunteer scheduling, with a minimum of 40 hours per week. Some evenings and an occasional Monday may be required. This is a non- exempt position that does qualify for overtime compensation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operate all construction equipment owned or rented by Henderson County Habitat for Humanity with skill and safety of the utmost importance.
  • Interact with sub-contractors, volunteers, future homeowners, and staff.
  • Maintain and service all equipment owned or rented by Henderson County Habitat for Humanity per manufacturers requirements, and maintain accurate records of such.
  • Work with Site Supervisor and Superintendent to ensure that assigned tasks are being completed according to schedules.
  • During times that equipment operations are not necessary, work under the direction of the Site Supervisor to perform other construction tasks.
  • Participate in group builds or projects.
  • Coordinate and ensure that all utilities have been located before any digging is started.
  • Work with Site Supervisor in managing inventory control related to inventory being added or used for construction.
  • Monitor and ensure construction quality.
  • Monitor and ensure construction site cleanliness, orderliness, and safeness.
  • Undertake other tasks and duties as need arises.
