The purpose of the Nutrition Supervisor is to oversee the implementation of nutrition project activities in the target health facilities and outreach sites as per world vision and international standards through close monitoring and support of the health facility staff and community members. The Nutrition supervisor is also responsible to ensure the proper storage, management and distribution of food items earmarked for target communities. The nutrition supervisor will be responsible for the compilation and submission of quality quantitate and qualitative report.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Oversee quality implementation of project activities

  • Have good understanding of the project activities, standards and outputs.
  • Ensure health centers and project implementation sites have all the required inputs to enable them implement quality program
  • Conduct supportive supervision of fixed and mobile nutrition activities using supervision checklist at least once per month including on-the-job training on the findings of supervision
  • Ensure IYCF counseling is conducted for beneficiaries during food distributions and home visits by CNWs
  • Compile and submit quality supervision report with action points after each supervision report and follow up on the action points
  • Organize and conduct outreach nutrition activities as per the project plan in close collaboration with the nutrition officer and health center staff
  • Participate and support the health center staff in organizing and conducting food distribution to the correct target group.

Food and commodity management

  • Monitor and provide support to the nutrition facilitator to ensure the appropriate storage of food and other commodities
  • Ensure appropriate procedures are followed and appropriate documentation is done when food items are received and dispatched
  • Monitor that the stock cards are maintained and accurate with spot checks
  • Monitor the safety of the food warehouses and immediately report any loss or discrepancies in food balance

Reporting and data management

  • Ensure the availability of the required registration books, reporting formats, beneficiary cards and other recording and reporting tools in all food distribution sites
  • Monitor the proper recording of beneficiary information on the registration books and beneficiary cards
  • Monitor that beneficiaries have signed on the beneficiary list confirming receipt of food
  • Monitor the organization and filing of beneficiary cards and other evidences of beneficiaries that are discharged from the program
  • Conduct on-the-job training for the staff on using recording and reporting formats and compiling accurate report
  • Compile and submit monthly report on the number of beneficiaries and the amount of food distributed using the standard reporting format on timely manner
  • Compile quality activity report including supervision report on monthly basis
  • Compile and submit the project beneficiary figures for the upcoming month

Outreach and community based activities

  • Conduct regular meeting with community leaders and health committees to get feedback on the quality of the program and update them on the progress of activities
  • Ensure community has adequate understanding of the program standards
  • Ensure communities get accurate information on distribution plans
  • Monitor and support the activities of the CNWs in their activities including regular meeting while supervising health facilities
  • Support the CNWs in screening, IYCF counseling, defaulter tracing, home visits and other tasks

Other

  • Actively participate in needs assessment, program evaluation and other assessments and surveys
  • Other relevant tasks assigned by your supervisor
Educational Background: 
Diploma in Nutrition, Nursing, Public health or Development Studies.
Skills/Experience:

  • Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills
  • Must adhere to set security standards

Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  • Professional technical skill desired: Excellent organizational, negotiation skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience: At least 2 years’ experience in implementation and supervision of food aid or nutrition project activities.
  • Other: Proficient in the English language, and Somali local language.
  • Computer literacy is required working knowledge of Microsoft office application.
