The Team Leader will provide technical and program oversight in the design and day-to-day management of implementation of activities in support of Results 3. The Team Leader will work as part of an interdisciplinary team, reporting to the Technical Director. S/he will ensure the technical and methodological soundness of Result 3 activities and, in collaboration with the project team and partners, support the design of both evidence-based community-systems strengthening and service delivery strategies. The Team Leader will work to reinforce social and behavior change to reduce socio-cultural barriers to improved health by:

  • Identifying and addressing barriers to uptake of respectful, youth-inclusive and friendly MNCH/FP services
  • Facilitating empowerment and positive transformation of gender relations
  • Employing non-judgmental approaches and proven strategies for building relations with religious objector communities
  • Improving community health-seeking practices and behaviors, particularly during pregnancy, birth, and for newborns, children, and youth

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Advance the design of an overarching integrated SBC strategy and theory of change with relevant government departments and other partner staff, which compliments community mobilization and governance strategies
  • Manage and oversee capacity strengthening for effective participatory SBC interventions for various stakeholders, including health facility providers, civil society representatives, faith-based groups, including the Apostolic and Church of Zion faiths, and VHWs and community volunteers who deliver outreach and group training
  • Build staff capacity for gender sensitive integrated SBCC–related activity design, implementation, and monitoring
  • Oversee and contribute to the design of assessments in order to guide program design, implementation, monitoring, and adaptation
  • Develop or adapt, test and produce technical materials as well as SBC print support and media materials as needed, in collaboration with community stakeholders, technical advisors and possibly outside consultants or contractors, to further project activities, objectives, and results
  • Lead participatory and audience-focused materials design, concept and pretesting
  • Provide timely and accurate written and verbal reporting on SBC and gender activities
  • Contribute to project strategic planning, and to well-written, focused project reports, annual implementation plans, success stories, and other written products
  • Participate in technical working groups and liaise with other project implementing organizations.
  • Serve as a focal point on with local and international partners, government representatives, donors and other organizational stakeholders
Educational Background: 
Master’s degree in health communication, health and nutrition promotion, communications, international development, public health nutrition or related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • 7+ years’ experience with progressively increasing responsibility for designing, managing and implementing multi-faceted and multi-channel SBC programming, with some experience working on gender and youth empowerment
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience of professional staff
  • Experience effectively liaising with Ministry of Health and Child Care officials and dignitaries, executives of NGOs, FBOs, CBOs, the for-profit business community, and members of the donor community
  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of Zimbabwe healthcare system, particularly the public health system
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentations skills in English
  • Familiarity with USAID or other USG administrative, management and reporting procedures and systems
  • Proven track record managing small project teams, working as a team player, and fostering team work
