Provide leadership and supervision to volunteers on HFHGC construction sites and ensure each HFHGC construction project is completed in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Ensure that construction activity takes place in a safe manner, consistent with affiliate safety policies and procedures
- Drive manual transmission non-CDL box truck, complete legally-required DOT physical
- Ensure the necessary tools and equipment are delivered and organized onsite for each volunteer build day
- On-site coordination of subcontractors and deliveries of all building materials needed to build homes in organized fashion (pre, during and post construction sub duties)
- Update material takeoffs as necessary on each project to ensure accuracy. Provide information to Director of Project Management
- Update subcontractor schedules with any repair or item not completed per their contract with HFHGC
- Understand purchase order process to communicate with staff, vendors and subcontractors
- Schedule all necessary inspections and ensure passing scores and good relationship with inspectors
- Ensure that homeowner orientations and first and second pre-closing homeowner walkthroughs are performed with each Partner Family (coordinate with Director of Project Management)
- Assist with addressing warranty issues, following all established processes
- Assist with homeowner walk-throughs one year after move-in to follow-up on warrantable items
- Ensure Tools, equipment and vehicles assigned to you are appropriately maintained
- Assist with office maintenance needs
- Assist in editing HFHGC Construction Handbook; Know the handbook and actively use on site
- Suggest potentially advantageous building practices and material cost savings opportunities to Director of Project Management
- Attend and pursue any relevant continuing education opportunities as needed or required
- Participate in Task Leader/QAT Trainings (help teach 3-4 TL trainings per year; attend all QAT meetings possible)
- Assist with Home Preservation projects as needed
- Assist in maintenance of warehouse as part of the construction team
- Supervise and provide leadership to volunteers on HFHGC work sites from beginning to 100% completion
- Supervise AmeriCorps Construction crew members on and off site
- Treat partner families and homeowners with respect and dignity. Make partner families’ involvement in the construction process meaningful
- Ensure that volunteers consistently have positive and productive experiences
- Ensure that all safety regulations and procedures are followed on and off HFHGC work sites (staff, volunteers and AmeriCorps)
- All other duties that may be assigned by the Director of Project Management
Educational Background:
Associate’s Degree or comparable qualifications; Bachelor’s Degree in Building Science or related field preferred
Skills/Experience:

- 1-3 years Construction Experience; 3 years preferred
- A desire to work with and manage small and large groups of volunteers on a weekly basis
- Ability to work a Tuesday-Saturday schedule
- Possession of or desire to obtain a SC Home Builder’s License
- Prefer CAD, Revit or similar drawing skills
