Nevada County Habitat for Humanity is seeking a full-time Executive Director to lead our unique, inclusive, and established nonprofit organization. We are focused on creating affordable homeownership opportunities in Nevada County, California. This position is responsible for strategically leading the affiliate to fulfill our mission and managing the day-to-day operations including home building, thrift store, fiscal management, mortgage management, homeowner services, resource development and supervision of team members. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board Executive Committee and the full Board of Directors.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Implement affiliate plan for home building, homeowner services, fundraising, ReStore, volunteer program, and community partnerships to deliver mission goals
- Manage annual budget and oversee sound financial procedures, compliance with all commonly recognized accounting practices, including annual audit
- Partner with the Homeowner Selection Committee to ensure the selection process abides with fair housing laws and Habitat for Humanity defined selection criteria;
- Oversee construction program to maintain build schedule and ensure compliance with budgetary and design criteria, safety standards and volunteer experience pertaining to the Habitat for Humanity mission
- In conjunction with the Homeowner Support Committee and all Habitat homeowners, facilitate ongoing education and success
- Participate in advocacy and public policy on affordable housing including fostering relationships with city/county staff and elected officials
- Serve as a spokesperson in community outreach and fund development efforts, including public presentations and donor relations
- Oversee lending, home sale and closing process to ensure federal, state and Habitat for Humanity compliance
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate affiliate staff on a weekly basis
- Report progress on strategic plan goals and provide monthly reports including financials to the Board Executive Committee and Board of Directors
- Maintain compliance with all Habitat for Humanity, State, and Federal rules and regulations to ensure good standing of the organization
Educational Background:
Undergraduate or graduate degree in business administration, public policy, non-profit administration or related field
Skills/Experience:
- Five years’ minimum as organization leader with significant experience in multi-tasking diverse projects, financial management and staff supervision essential
- Nonprofit background preferred
- Professional experience with Habitat for Humanity mission and/or affordable housing nonprofit preferred
- Highly proficient using Microsoft Office applications
- Familiarity with QuickBooks and donor software applications
- Strong working knowledge and aptitude for design and presentation applications
- Excellent verbal and written skills including the ability to present our mission to a diverse audience
- Ability to problem solve, effectively build a wide variety of relationships and drive multiple initiatives
