The Development Manager is responsible for the performance and success of Walk to End Alzheimer’s along with additional mass market events in order to meet the fundraising goals of the Alzheimer’s Association-Greater Michigan Chapter. The Development Manager will identify, recruit, retain, manage, supervise and evaluate volunteer leadership while executing logistics in accordance with the National Walk standards and best practices. The Development Manager position reports to the Senior Walk Director and is based in Grand Rapids, MI.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Actively participate as a member of the Development team to ensure effective integration of development events with Chapter priorities
  • Execute plan for Walk to End Alzheimer’s events to include walk participant recruitment and retention; sponsor cultivation and solicitation; promotion and marketing activities; and all event logistics
  • Plan, coordinate, manage and evaluate of all West Michigan Walks
  • Secure sponsorship opportunities in West Michigan 
  • Assist in implementing fundraising strategies for Chapter-wide Walk to End Alzheimer’s events
  • Responsible for development and stewardship donor relationships in West Michigan
  • Plan and execute various special events as requested
  • Oversee project budgets 
  • Assist the Senior Walk Director as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred or equivalent education and work experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience managing volunteers 
  • Proven experience building community relationships
  • Successful fundraising track record
  • Knowledge of fundraising software preferred
  • Excellent written, verbal and electronic communication skills for a variety of audiences
  • Effective public speaking skills to a variety of audiences
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office applications preferred
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Commitment to a professional code of ethics
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Ability to operate designated equipment
  • Ability to lift, carry and transport materials up to 30 lbs
  • High level of integrity, diplomacy and initiative 
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers and external contacts to build and maintain successful teams

  • Normal to fast paced office environment
  • High volume of computer work
  • Work may be stressful at times
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Requires additional hours during weeks surrounding special events
  • High volume of public contact
  • Ability to travel as needed to perform job duties
