As the Creative Director for the North Texas marketing you will make an extraordinary impact by working with development and health strategies colleagues to craft and deliver strategic communications and marketing support.

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Communications, the Creative Director manages in-house graphic design and produces print and web materials for local staff throughout the North Texas marketing (Dallas, Tarrant, Denton and Collin Counties); produces major North Texas publications and materials; and ensures proper and consistent logo use, branding and style in materials and on Web site.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage the cost-effective, on-time design, writing/editing and printing of targeted, high-quality North Texas publications: development of sales documents (such as Community Value Documents – 40+ versions), market-wide materials, American Heart Month kits, Stroke Month kits, etc.
  • Manage the cost-effective, on-time, high-quality design/editing/printing of local print projects (flyers, posters, invitations, event materials, etc.) as requested by North Texas staff. Focus will be on completion of projects for events in the Dallas and Fort Worth areas.
  • Create high-quality, compelling content and templates, and enable staff to easily localize materials.
  • Create graphic design elements for web and social media as requested by Director of Media Relations.
  • Consult with and guide staff on the use of American Heart Association branding guidelines and statistical information.
  • Manage the cost-effective, on-time planning, writing/shooting/directing and editing/production of targeted, high-quality video and animation projects, etc. (including development appeal “donuts” to be used across markets)
  • Procure and maintain hardware and software for increased cost-effectiveness, efficiency and quality of graphic design projects.
  • Train staff in best practices for shooting high quality photos and video for use in projects as well as how to use locally customizable print and web templates.
  • Prepare and monitor adherence to Creative Director budget.
  • Utilize existing national and affiliate materials, products and tools.
  • Serve as North Texas representative for appropriate Affiliate and National initiatives.
  • Willingness to accept other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Director of Communications or Senior Vice President of North Texas.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in graphic design, design, advertising, mass communications, or marketing communications or related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in communications, public relations, social media, video production, journalism or related work.
  • Excellent journalistic, business, script-writing and storytelling writing/editing skills.
  • Proficiency in graphic design using Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign and a practical understanding of print production, web design and electronic content.
  • The ability to take responsibility for the overall management of project production without needing to have final control or format, content, etc.
  • Experience in a nonprofit volunteer environment desirable.
  • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and interact with all levels of American Heart Association staff, volunteers and the public.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
  • Must have strong organizational skills.
  • Must have the ability to lift at least 20 lbs. from the ground to waist level with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
