Job Status:                  Full-time (40 hours/week), exempt

Location:                    Within the Colorado Plateau (AZ, UT, CO, NM)

 

The development manager is responsible for planning and coordinating all aspects of fundraising for individual and corporate donors in alignment with the development priorities 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategy/Planning: 45%

  • Create and implement a robust, multi-faceted strategy to identify/solicit new donors and retain/grow existing donors, including but not limited to:
  • Develop and implement a stewardship plan (“donor journey”) for donor segments identified with the senior director of development including but not limited to personal outreach via phone calls, emails, handwritten notes, meetings, special event invitations, and field trips.
  • Support the efforts of major donor, foundation, and planned gift fundraising in coordination with the senior development director and the foundations manager.
  • Identify and leverage fundraising opportunities around time-sensitive programmatic issues.
  • In coordination with the trips manager, lead or co-lead donor field trips as needed.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of membership solicitations and appeals to make data-driven decisions about the Trust’s development practices.
  • Be an engaged member of the development team, the board of trustees development committee, and additional internal/external collaborations as needed.
  • Ensure that programmatic and donor commitments, Trust policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for ethical compliance, as defined by the Association of Fundraising Professionals and financial auditors.

 

Writing and Content Development: 50%

  • Serve as a knowledgeable advocate for all of the Trust’s programs.
  • Develop and maintain a work plan and the development activities calendar.
  • Write all copy for print and electronic renewals, appeals, lapsed member efforts, and manage the creation and production of the Annual Report.
  • In coordination with the communications team, provide all development content for the Trust’s website and publications, both printed and electronic.
  • Regularly maintain and update all online donation and membership forms, form letters, and gift acknowledgment materials.
  • Coordinate with appropriate development team members to ensure accurate and timely gift entry, database management, renewals, gift acknowledgment, reporting, and record keeping.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Additional/ Other: 5%

  • Serve on relevant committees, attend and facilitate staff meetings, and participate in organizational trainings.
  • Attend board meetings and staff retreats.
Skills/Experience: 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience advocating for the environment — especially the Colorado Plateau, its landscapes, and its peoples.
  • Demonstrated ability to raise money through individual donor programs, including major gifts, monthly gifts, membership programs, and special events.
  • Previous experiencing networking to gain financial support and build a donor base.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of partners, members, and audiences both in written and verbal forms.
  • The ability to actively listen and integrate feedback and new ideas into workflow.
  • Previous database management experience with demonstrated ability to input, export, and manipulate data efficiently, effectively, and accurately.
  • Previous experience with project management that includes: planning, managing, executing, monitoring, and evaluating projects.
  • Previous experience with planned giving a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously, work on demanding timelines, and meet due dates.
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively design presentations and effectively present on topics related to the position.
  • Ability to travel, at times on short notice, and lead donor trips (infrequently on weekends and as needed).

Compensation/Benefits: 

$50,000 - $55,000 starting salary. The starting salary is negotiable, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary advances are discussed with the direct supervisor of the position annually and are based on clearly outlined criteria upon hire. The Trust provides individual health insurance, vacation, holiday and sick leave, disability, 401(k) retirement benefits, and professional development funds.
