Vice President of Construction

The VP, Construction is responsible for overseeing the construction and/or rehabilitation of all homes constructed for Fayetteville Area Habitat. All projects to be delivered on-time and within budget while ensuring volunteer opportunities on all projects.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops, evaluates and implements long-term goals and strategies for project development.
  • Serves as liaison to all municipal officials and contracted engineers in matters related to the predevelopment and development of all construction projects.
  • Leads the design of all infrastructures in conjunction with engineers.
  • Manages approval process for all development and construction.
  • Provides for all projects scheduling to meet organizational goals, while working in cooperation with the volunteer coordinator. Ensures that the schedule is maintained by appropriately allocating all internal and external resources, independently managing potential concerns and providing for contingencies to ensure the timely completion of all homes.
  • Provides and maintains all budgets related to construction.
  • Negotiates all contracts with subcontractors ensuring that all work meets quality standards and that delivery of goods and services are on time and within budget.
  • Works with the team to plan for all project funding.
  • Oversees all site supervisors to ensure all work is being completed on time, within budget and code.
  • Coordinates construction needs with the Development team to solicit appropriate donations of materials and services.
  • Supervises customer service for all new and existing construction to ensure prompt resolution to all warranty issues.
  • Provides leadership to special building/volunteer events such as Women Build to ensure that events are expertly planned and implemented.
  • Participates in all construction meetings, providing information regarding construction schedule, customer service and all operating procedure matters; will recruit members and oversee a construction committee.
  • Serves as an ambassador for Habitat for Humanity with all volunteers, presenting accurate, compelling information about the affiliate and Habitat for Humanity and our mission.
  • Protects Fayetteville Habitat from liability including matters of safety and construction. Reports potential concerns to COO in a timely manner.
  • Promote safety on job site and monitor Competent Person certifications.

  • Preceding job responsibilities or title, all employees of the Fayetteville Habitat affiliate have a vital role in stewardship of all volunteers.   • All duties are performed with excellence with particular attention to customer service both internal and external. Internal customer service includes co-workers, homebuyers, Board of Directors and volunteers. External customer service includes phone inquiries, Habitat ReStore shoppers, and donors. Each individual we have a connection to is a potential donor or volunteer and can be presented with engagement opportunities such as store donations, monetary gifts and volunteer time.
Educational Background: 
BA or BS degree in construction management or another related field preferable- or equivalent work experience. General contractor’s license preferable.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Proven skills in project management, timelines and budgets.
  • Knowledgeable of safety and volunteer experience.
  • Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office including Work Excel, Access, Publisher and PowerPoint.
  • Communicate and work effectively with a diverse population, varying in age, physical/mental health, lifestyles and cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Communicate and work effectively with contractors.
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to accept training and supervision.

Experience

  • Understanding of construction, budgets, timelines, and at least 3 years’ experience in management.
  • Language Skills
  • High Skill – Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills
  • Intermediate Skill-Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning Ability, High Skill-Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
