This position is to support the IT Security and Operations team with various technical responsibilities. Tasks span across security, network, system administration, customer support, and maintenance for our various technical platforms and solutions across the Agency.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Network Administration Responsibilities   (25%)

  • Supports networking environment by implementing system configuration according to design; executing system installation; following system standards.
  • Maximizes network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; performing upgrades; collaborating with network architects on network optimization.
  • Secures network system by enforcing policies; monitoring access.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Enables business continuity capabilities for technical infrastructure
  • Provide technical services and support for the following areas:
    • Network level: WAN and LAN connectivity, routers, firewalls, and security
    • Internal systems, cloud and network infrastructure.
    • Remote monitoring and management of system alerts and notifications
    • Physical environment: AC, UPS
    • Backups of critical data according to regulatory and business requirements
    • AV and conferencing solutions for SCUS locations and remote staff
  • Perform network assessments and security audits
  • Participate in the administration and maintenance of the remote monitoring and management system: update agent scripts, respond to alerts, monitor dashboard, and periodic system review
  • Document maintenance for all computer systems and network infrastructure
  • Communication with customers as required: keeping them informed of incident progress, notifying them of impending changes or agreed outages
  • Assist with Level 2 and 3 support for ticket resolution as needed

Systems Administration Responsibilities (25%)

  • Implementing SA-related solutions according to design for various project and operational needs.
  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Maintain installation and configuration procedures.
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards.

Operations and Support   (25%)

  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
  • Provide Level 2 and 3 support per request from various constituencies.  Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.  Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.

Maintenance   (25%)

  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure new services as necessary.
  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.  Configure Virtual machines, CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
Educational Background: 
High School or Technical/Vocational Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • You have a minimum 3-5 years' experience in area of network and/or systems administration, preferably using Microsoft and Cisco products.
  • Professional level of specialized knowledge to manage complex tasks, programs or projects.
