Save the Children’s Specialist, Social Media Engagement will contribute to social media strategy, supporter engagement and social content creation. This person will balance innovative storytelling, purposeful messaging, brand strategy and data-driven insights to deliver an impactful and engaging social presence, in support of the overall Save the Children marketing, communications and fundraising strategy and our broader mission. The role will focus on pre-planned and reactive content to join and lead existing social conversations around breaking news, current events and social trends.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Collaborating with communications, advocacy and policy teams to monitor breaking news, current events and social trends, using social media expertise to find opportunities for Save the Children to join the conversation (30%)
  • Working with brand/creative team to plan, develop and share engaging, original content to post on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and other emerging social platforms (30%)
  • Tracking performance of social content using native platform analytics, various social listening tools and regular reports to inform strategy (15%)
  • Working closely with stakeholders both internal (fundraising, talent, senior management) and external (corporate partners) to deliver on shared objectives (20%)
  • Monitoring and managing brand reputation through social listening services, managing responses and proper escalation of comments and inquiries to appropriate personnel/departments; perform other duties as may be required (5%)
Educational Background: 
High School or Technical/Vocational Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in social media or digital content strategy/production
  • Established short-form writer, capable of writing “in voice” and within brand guidelines, with knowledge of content/character limitations and best practices for primary public social networks
  • Proven and demonstrated experience managing multiple simultaneous projects, priorities and deadlines
  • Strong written and oral communications skills sufficient to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and staff through all levels of the organization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journalism/communications background with excellent judgment and a keen interest in global and national news
  • A passion for storytelling through powerful images, impactful videos and captivating words
  • Knowledge of AP Style
