The Senior Director, Trustee Relations is the primary relationship manager with Save the Children US’ Chairman of the Board and Board of Trustees, and will help set the gold standard for engaging our most valued volunteers and donors.
This position will sit in the Individual Philanthropy team and provide all-around support to the Board of Trustees, ensuring their service with Save the Children is as mutually rewarding as possible. This position will build a close relationship with each board member in order to fully understand their interests and networks, which will in turn leverage their full involvement with their fellow Board members and across Save the Children.
The Senior Director will serve as the lead for all cultivation and stewardship activities, and identify strategic opportunities to engage board members in Save the Children’s fundraising efforts, including meeting annual fundraising goals for the board overall and ensuring 100% board participation. This position will also serve as the main liaison between the board and other agency departments, including marketing, media, programs and advocacy.
Strategy and Donor Management (50%):
- Build and strengthen relationships with board members to assess opportunities for engagement across the agency.
- Responsible for establishing a fundraising strategy for each board member to meet overall board fundraising and 100% participation goals in conjunction with the AVP, Individual Philanthropy.
- Serve as the main relationship manager for each board member, including cultivating and stewarding all donations received, and providing regular reporting on how gifts are being used
- Manage other boards "asks" across the agency and provide stewardship of non-financial asks.
- Facilitate ad hoc working groups and committees to carry forward priorities by internally aligning board activities with various key senior management and program staff. Ensure follow through of associated executives and their staff.

Developing the Board’s Network of Influencers and Donors (30%)
- Partner with each board member to develop engagement strategies for their networks to benefit Save the Children (financial and non-financial), and provide support to board members as needed
- Ensure strategic positioning and follow through with board contacts, and that board members are kept informed of all activities associated with these introductions on a routine basis.
- Develop messaging materials for Board to use with their networks
- Responsible for ensuring all strategy, donor and board contact information is accurate and updated in donor database
- On occasion, serve as senior spokesperson for events involving Board members, their contacts and high-level individual donors.
Communications and Engagement (10%):
- Serve as liaison between staff and board. Ensure smooth coordination of all requests for and by board.
- Establish and disseminate communications that are relevant for board involvement and leadership including fact sheets, newsletters, videos, reports, briefs and current trends.
- Ensure board members are aware of development and advocacy activities to encourage participation and recruitment of their networks.
- Encourage and oversee board engagement with Save the Children activities as well as supporting Board-led events, meetings and other activities.
- Manage program site visit opportunities. Provide travel support as needed.
- Monitor trends of board participation and brief board and senior leadership.
- Inform board members of the activities of their counterparts providing linkages, sharing of efforts, etc.
- Serve as the board request depository and the liaison for tactical items of need.
Senior Management Liaison (10%):
- Report to the Office of the President on board needs, concerns and opportunities associated with staff or strategy so they can engage as necessary.
- Attend board committee meetings to help follow-up on action items and ensure meeting outcomes are shared with appropriate leadership staff. Support board committees to ensure appropriate participation of board members based on interests, time availability and rotation.
- Contribute to board nominating efforts by engaging in ongoing dialogue with board members, staff, and leadership donors around candidates.
- Attend all quarterly business review sessions and serve as member of the Extended Leadership Team to ensure link with board members.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned, including supporting events and other high-level donor engagement of the Individual Philanthropy team.
- Minimum 10-15 years' experience in area of expertise in a non-profit or academic fundraising setting, with at least 10 years of experience in a non-profit or academic development setting working with senior management and raising funds from major donors and/or board members
- Background in fundraising
- Strong level of technical and/ or managerial knowledge, skills, and experience to lead a Unit or Team, or provide the technical advice, guidance and direction related to various size programs and grants
- Track record as an effective communicator and speaker
