Serve as the lead for all cultivation and stewardship for the Save the Children Board of Trustees and support the Chairman of the Board and the Office of the President in understanding the full involvement and capacity of each Trustee.  Maximize the value of each Trustee by understanding their potential and interests and facilitating connections between Trustees, their networks and Save the Children.

This role is our primary interface with our Trustees and will help set the gold standard for our HNW donor engagement

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Responsible for establishing the Trustee development strategy and operational plan in conjunction with the AVP, Individual Philanthropy and raise established Board revenue goal on an annual basis. Responsible for developing and monitoring Board development budget. (50%)
  • Serve as main connection and overseer of Board giving and giving gained through Board networks. Manage and measure Boards "asks" and results. Support Trustees in obtaining gifts through their personal networks and serve as centralized facilitator for resource development overall within the Board. Requires effectively managing relationships with a Trustee's circle of influence to ensure strategic positioning and follow through and that the Trustee is notified of moves associated with these introductions on a routine basis. Inform Trustees of the activities of their counterparts providing linkages, sharing of efforts, etc. Serve as the Trustee request depository and the liaison for tactical items of need. (30%)
    • Establish and disseminate communications that are relevant for Trustee involvement and leadership including fact sheets, newsletters, videos, reports, briefs and current trends. Ensure Trustees are aware of development and advocacy activities to encourage participation and recruitment of their networks.   Will also serve as event support by helping Trustees plug into Save the Children activities as well as actualize events and meeting ideas from Trustees.  Manage site visit opportunities, routinely scouting and distilling them for Trustee review and ease.  Monitor trends of Trustee participation and brief Board leadership. (10%)
    • Facilitate ad hoc working groups and committees to carry forward priorities by internally aligning Trustee activities with various key SMT and program staff. Ensure follow through of associated executives and their staff and “closing the loop.” (5%)
  • Report to the Office of the President on Trustee gaps, concerns or issues associated with staff or strategy so they can engage as necessary. Will also assist nominating efforts by engaging in ongoing dialogue with Trustees and leadership donors around candidates to ensure nominating is an everyday process. Perform other duties as may be assigned. (5%)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Background in fundraising required
  • You have a minimum 10-15 years' experience in area of expertise in a non-profit or academic fundraising setting, with at least 10 years of experience in a non-profit or academic development setting working with senior management and raising funds from major donors and/or Board Members
  • You have a strong Level of technical and/ or managerial knowledge, skills, and experience to lead a Unit or Team, or provide the technical advice, guidance and direction related to various size programs and grants
  • Track record as an effective communicator and speaker
