In concert with the VP / AVP of Corporate Partnerships and Senior Directors, this Sr. Director, Corporate Partnerships will play a leadership role in driving strategy, impact, growth and satisfaction of existing corporate partners for Save the Children. S/he will lead on ambitious partnerships and will provide oversight for a team, including Directors, Associate Directors and Managers, directly and in-directly, to diversify and grow partner impact, as well as generate significant revenue growth per annum.
The primary purpose of this role is to grow and steward existing corporate partners to create shared value – simultaneous social and business impact – in support of Save the Children’s domestic and international programs, and to support the overall goal to become a $100 million annual revenue generating team by 2020.
The Senior Director will be responsible for a $5 million fundraising target annually, with an aspiration to grow at least one partner to reach global corporate partner status, with $3 million+ in revenue over three years. Responsibilities including developing annual partnership plans that focus on stewarding and growing program investments, cause related marketing, employee engagement, in-kind donations, new funding models (e.g., shared value, collective impact, social enterprise and co-creation), product R&D and advocacy to ensure that government and other stakeholders embrace our evidence-based program results. In addition, the Senior Director will incorporate centennial fundraising ambition and messaging in all growth plans, during the 2018-2020 period.
This person will also lead on special assignments to help the team achieve its $100 million revenue goal, which could include, but not limited to, leading a Corporate Council Action Team or internal working group related to our Agency strategy for the 2019-21 period.
- Revenue Generation - Develop, manage, maximize and steward several high profile existing corporate partnerships generating no less than $5 million in cash on an annual basis. Responsible for all applicable aspects of the partnership including (but not limited to): programmatic support; emergency program funding; cause promotions; licensing; GIK of product, media and/or expertise; workplace giving; and employee engagement; workplace giving; with special focus on shared value, collective impact and social enterprise models. For all global partners and prospects, hold planning sessions with Business Teams and other key agency representatives to develop joint Large Account Plans. Responsible for setting clear objectives and measures for self and others. (40%)
- Team Management - Lead, mentor and develop a team of 4-6 corporate account managers, to manage committed grants and/or grow new business revenue Assist team in creating customized decks with storytelling, concept notes and shared value proposals, ensuring that Save the Children’s value proposition is clearing defined; review final pitches / proposals to ensure high quality, shared value and evidence-based approaches in coordination with Technical Advisors (TAs), Integrated Marketing leaders, and senior field experts; ensure due diligence reports are completed per guidelines. Drive post-pitch debrief sessions on large proposals in coordination with the Prospect Funding and Proposal Development team. Create stakeholder-mapping plans for large prospects to ensure senior leadership engagement and develop communications / recognition plans for large accounts on an annual basis. Provide ongoing mentoring to ensure progress toward professional and career development goals. Work collaboratively across departments and within the team to ensure all donor expectations for accounts under her/his watch are fully satisfied. Work closely with other Senior Directors of Account Management to assign accounts to team members—factoring in expertise, career development interests and corporate partner ‘personality’. Support on special team projects as requested. (35%).
- Lead on Corporate Council/Agency Working Group – Lead or co-lead a Corporate Council Action Team on an annual basis, or related strategy project, to help the team achieve its $100 million revenue goal. In addition, support the VP / AVP in crafting the annual remit for the Corporate Council—and help maintain relationships with selected members of the Corporate Council. (15%).
- External Visibility - Contribute to building our visibility with the corporate sector by speaking or facilitating at least one external panel per year. (5%)
- Knowledge Management - Stay up to date on trends in fundraising with the private sector, shared value partnerships, cause marketing and international development and provide training and support across the team on implications for team growth plans. Represent the team on working groups internally and externally. (5%)
- Minimum of 10-15 years' experience in a private sector I corporate environment or International Development (eg.iNGO) working in strategy consulting, brand management, strategy development.
- Proven fundraiser that has personally succeeded in growing partnerships 7-figure contributions from Fortune 500.
- Demonstrated evidence of having worked with a diverse range of senior-level stakeholders (g., Board, C-level executives, non-profit leaders).
- Extensive knowledge of current theories and practices in corporate fundraising trends (e.g., collective impact, shared value / co-creation, public-private partnerships, cause marketing, global volunteerism), with the ability to conceptualize, initiative and deliver multi-stakeholder projects that meet specific goals, on time and with distinction.
- Strong level of technical and/ or managerial knowledge, skills, and experience to lead a Unit or Team—in providing technical advice, guidance and direction related to various size grants and other partner commitments.
- An effective communicator that has played a role in increasing the visibility of the corporate team in inter-agency forums and working groups, as well with external senior-level corporate decision-makers at conferences and in forums, publications and other thought leadership.
- An individual with strong people skills and a demonstrated team player.
- Extensive experience in facilitating cross-functional brainstorm and strategy development.
- Demonstrates positive attitude and optimism that ambitious goals can be met.
- Ability to generate new ideas and innovative projects to continuously raise our game; translates innovative strategies and new ideas into cross-team, cross-functional projects with specific KPIs aligned with team, RD and agency goals.
- Must be willing and able to travel both domestically and internationally, up to 30% of the time.
- Fluency in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Degree in relevant field (business management, marketing, non-profit management, MPH) highly.
- R&D, policy, and marketing—or corporate fundraising with a leading non-profit is highly desirable.
- Experience in creating public/private partnerships and developing impact metrics.
