The Senior Specialist II, Infrastructure Architect is responsible for providing senior level technical support in all areas of computer networks, cloud computing and system administration.

Primary responsibilities include managing and supporting cloud computing, scripting, networking, virtualization and testing with Windows-based networks, as well as LAN/WAN design and support. The Senior Specialist II, Infrastructure Architect will also have knowledge of network protocols and expertise in designing, implementing and maintaining all aspects of a network.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Network Administration (25%)

  • Establishes networking environment by designing system configuration; directs system installation; defines, documents, and enforces system standards.
  • Maximizes network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshoots network problems and outages; schedules upgrades; collaborates with network architects on network optimization.
  • Secures network system by establishing and enforcing policies; defines and monitors access.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities by reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Enables business continuity capabilities for technical infrastructure.
  • Provides technical services and support for the network, backups, and monitoring of systems.
  • Participates in the administration and maintenance of the remote monitoring and management system: updates agent scripts, responds to alerts, monitors dashboard, and performs periodic system review.
  • Participates in RFP processes and other projects to identify new products and solutions.
  • Documents maintenance for all computer systems and network infrastructure.
  • Communication with customers as required
  • Assists with Level 3 support for ticket resolution as needed.

Systems Administration (25%)

  • Engineering of SA-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
  • Installs new / rebuilds existing servers and configures hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Develops and maintains installation and configuration procedures.
  • Leads development of system standards.
  • Researches and recommends innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identifies approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
  • Office 365 management and configuration (Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint, AzureAD).
  • Active Directory management and configuration (domain users, security groups, distribution groups, group policies).

Operations and Support (25%)

  • Performs daily system monitoring, verifies the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviews system and application logs, and verifies the completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Performs regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Performs daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
  • Performs regular file archival and purge as necessary.
  • Provides Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigates and troubleshoots issues.
  • Repairs and recovers from hardware or software failures. Coordinates and communicates with impacted constituencies.

Maintenance (25%)

  • Applies OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
  • Maintains operational, configuration, or other procedures.
  • Performs periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Performs ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configures Virtual Machines, CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
  • Maintains data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
  • Perform all other duties as may be required.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 7-10 years' experience in senior level technical support. 
  • 3rd line Windows server support experience.
  • Previous experience supporting Office 365 / Azure. 
  • Solid experience with both Exchange and Active Directory.
  • General networking experience.
  • Cloud computing, scripting, networking, virtualization and testing with Windows based networks, Exchange E-Mail Internet technologies, LAN/WAN, VMWare, and PowerShell. 
  • Expert knowledge in creating, administering, and troubleshooting Group Policies (GPOs) and Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), SAML, SSO.
  • Knowledge of server virtualization technologies, preferably VMware.
