Save the Children’s Director, Social Media Engagement will lead social media strategy, supporter engagement and social content creation. This person will balance innovative storytelling, purposeful messaging, brand strategy and data-driven insights to deliver an impactful and engaging social presence, in support of the overall Save the Children marketing, communications and fundraising strategy and our broader mission.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Setting clear goals for the team, assigning responsibilities, coaching and managing team members. Ensuring that the right structure, resources and skills are in place for the team to consistently deliver quality work in a fast paced environment. (35%)
  • Strategy and planning of social engagement activities both planned and unplanned, including campaigns, emergencies, and media events, ensuring the team is ready to respond to rapidly changing external events. (20%)
  • Working closely with stakeholders both internal (fundraising, talent, communications and advocacy, senior management) and external (corporate partners) to deliver on shared objectives. (20%)
  • Setting clear goals and performance KPIs for the team. Tracking, optimizing performance and reporting.(10%)
  • Closely monitoring new developments, trends and best practices in social media engagement to ensure Save the Children is always a leader in social engagement.(10%)
  • Budget management and other duties as may be required. (5%)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 7-10 years' experience in area of expertise
  • Solid understanding and hands-on experience of digital and social media marketing.
  • At least 2 years’ experience managing a social media team within a for-profit brand or large non-profit organization. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a complex highly matrixed global organization
  • Experience working with senior management around communications and content decisions in complex high-pressure situations such as humanitarian emergencies.
  • Hands on experience leading and making decisions in a fast paced communications or media environment.
