In concert with the Corporate Partnerships Team, the Director, Corporate Skills-Based Volunteers (SBV), will play a lead role in advancing Save the Children’s agency growth strategy, and growth of corporate partner relationships, through the identification and oversight of ambitious corporate pro-bono partnership engagements that seek to address key skill gaps in headquarter functions (e.g., HR, Legal Finance); Program Teams (e.g., global health strategy, etc.); and Country Offices (e.g., behavior change communications, social marketing, etc.).
The Director of SBV will be responsible for working across Save the Children’s domestic and international leadership teams to identify strategic agency projects in need of external expertise and/or professional support and matching them with top-tier corporate employee engagement programs, interests and skills sets.
Responsibilities include with working in conjunction with internal colleagues and external corporate partners to develop and implement robust and measurable pro-bono partnership plans to ensure impactful outcomes for all parties. This position is also responsible for interacting with Senior Management across the movement; the Global Corporate Partnership Group (GCPG); and the SCI Fundraising Hub to share best practices in corporate pro-bono engagements that ultimately result in greater efficiency in program delivery and headquarter functions, as well as drive deeper corporate engagement with Save the Children’s work.
In addition, the Director of SBV will be responsible for overseeing the growth of corporate engagement in pro-bono opportunities by staying abreast of best practices in the corporate skills-based volunteer arena—as well as positioning Save the Children as a thought leader in this space by attending pro-bono focused conferences and speaking on external employee-engagement panels.
Communications (25%)
- Advocate across the movement for participation in skills-based volunteering by sharing strategies, case studies and results throughout each fiscal year—positioning SCUS as a thought leader on SBV within the wider movement
- Diplomatically and assertively lead conversations between leadership teams within the movement and senior managers at US corporations to ensure positive project outcomes.
- Be the voice of skills-based volunteering in internal and external communications for the agency including frequently speaking at all-staff / ESMT meetings, and overseeing the execution of high quality print and digital messaging.
Project Development (25%)
- Work with leadership from business teams, country offices, SCUS headquarters divisions and SCI/A to develop robust strategic projects that fulfill an agency need that can be pitched to corporations for skills-based volunteering support.
- Advise and assist on proposal and scope development of each project, working with all parties who will participate in and benefit from SBV project work.
Corporate Relationship-Building (25%)
- Build and maintain relationships with new and existing corporate partners (e.g., GSK, J&J and Pfizer) who have formal skills-based volunteering programs (i.e. fellowships or secondments) or are interested in supporting specific projects tied to their CSR goals.
- Be the primary point of contact for corporations on their SBV projects.
- Help translate the needs of Save the Children into terms that directly connect to corporations’ CSR strategies.
Strategy Development (10%)
- Develop, oversee implementation and communicate annual strategies for skills-based volunteering program based on research, prior-year results and learning and overall SCUS /SCI strategy.
- Ensure that strategies make progress toward meeting needs within the Save the Children movement and leveraging additional corporate funding—the win-win.
Management (10%)
- Supervise the Manager, Skills-Based Volunteering who will handle the operational aspects of this body of work.
- Utilize skilled volunteers to support special projects as needed.
- Oversee the work of interns throughout the year.
Financial Accountability (5%)
- Ensure that skills-based volunteer team provides GIK team with documentation and information needed to book revenue and manage awards in AMS.
- Responsible for goal of continually increasing revenue from current level of $1.3M.
- You have a minimum 7-10 years' experience in area of expertise
- Skilled with Microsoft Office products
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with corporations from a non-profit side or within the CSR area of a corporation.
- Prior working experience in international development and/or a non-profit
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with frequent experience in public speaking and presentations to senior management
- Strong skills in managing up and working with senior-level staff
- Diplomatic, but assertive communication style
