The Director, Facilities and Building Operations is a hands-on, seasoned professional who will direct the Save the Children facilities and create a safe, efficient work environment that improves business performance and optimizes staff productivity. The successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership and management of the Building Operations Department including operational/mission-related programs and services having critical impact on the accomplishment of Save the Children objectives and outcomes. This position will have input into policy and liaise with key stakeholders and as well as provide analytical guidance and advise executive officials on industry best practices.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Oversee the supervision of all facilities management functions including in-house staff, lease negotiations, vendor relationship management (security, housekeeping, and catering) and contract negotiations, project management, facility administration, building/equipment repairs and emergency response to inclement weather events year-round (25%)
  • Design and plan workstations, implement and monitor remodeling and refurbishment initiatives, test equipment, forecast space needs, and guide relocations of facilities; ensuring compliance with federal, state, and country laws for CT, DC, and KY (current facilities), including zoning laws (25%)
  • Direct facility functions, design, implement, and monitor policies and safety procedures, minimize operational/facility hazards (20%)
  • Prepare, maintain, and analyze budgets, estimate costs, and monitor expenditures (10%)
  • Manage team members including hiring, developing goals and priorities, scheduling, assigning tasks and projects, monitoring work, evaluating performance and training (20%)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 7-10 years' experience in area of expertise 
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Successful candidate should be highly adaptable; openly accept and work effectively in a demanding environment with competing and changing priorities; exhibit timely and impartial responsiveness; and have a strong customer focus
  • This position frequently requires work beyond the typical 40 hours and during non-traditional hours to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and in varying weather environments. This must be available to handle emergencies during working and non-working hours and must report to work during a period of general emergency.
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
