The Associate Vice President, Financial Architecture, Risk, Innovation and Treasury is responsible for leading key initiatives and processes on behalf of the Finance Division and the Agency.   S/he will be the key point of contact for the Investment Committee of the Board, and will work with the Audit and Finance and Administration Committees on topics under his/her responsibility.  The AVP will work across the agency to design and implement the financial data architecture and financial technology infrastructure design, including required linkages to Save the Children International (SCI).  The AVP will lead efforts to drive a strong control culture in the Finance Division and across the agency, and will be responsible for designing and implementing the Finance Division risk management process.  The AVP will be responsible for developing financial strategies to support innovative developments in Save the Children’s programs and fundraising.  S/he will manage cash and treasury operations and associated banking relationships.

The AVP works directly with the Senior Management Team, Senior Finance Leadership Team and other Business and Finance staff, and supervises a team of 5 or more people, depending on projects. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Finance Division Initiatives   Time: 10%.       

  • Define and lead Finance Division continuous improvement initiatives in partnership with Finance Leadership Team.
  • Define the Knowledge Management framework for Finance and establish processes.
  • Lead Finance Division goal setting and related monitoring processes
  • Work with the CFO in establishing priorities for the division and ensuring the organizational capacity to meet goals.

 Financial Data Architecture and Technology   Time: 25%

  • Develop data model and financial infrastructure to support efficient operations and reporting, financial analysis and decision-making.
  • Work with the Finance team and across the agency to identify and manage linkages to Save the Children International (SCI).
  • Partner with Finance, Information Technology (IT), and other parts of the organization to define and analyze data requirements and end to end business processes
  • Lead Finance interactions with IT and other areas of the agency in planning and ensuring that technology enables effective financial functions.
  • Establish Financial Systems priorities and define major projects.

Risk Management and Controls    Time: 25%

  • Establish a strong control culture within the Finance Division and across the agency.
  • Oversee the risk management and control transformation process for the Finance division.
  • Support the Finance Leadership Team in managing risk for their respective areas.
  • Lead and/or participate in SCI monitoring initiatives

Financial Innovation   Time: 20%

  • Establish relationships within Save the Children and with external organizations to bring best practices to Finance.
  • Work across the agency to develop and support financial innovation across the agency, including innovations in programming including fund-raising, such as tax – efficient giving.

Treasury and Investment Management   Time: 20%

  • Manage cash, liquidity and access to credit.
  • Forecast cash flow and ensure liquidity to fund operations.
  • Participate in treasury management initiatives across the movement: member loans, global forecasting, and hedging analysis.
  • Manage key banking and investment management relationships.
  • Set policy for Treasury, Investments and Endowment.
  • Manage the investment portfolio in concert with the Investment Committee and provide support to the Investment Committee processes.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor Degree required
Skills/Experience: 

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 15 years of substantive experience in financial management in an international organization with similar complexity to Save the Children.
  • Managerial knowledge, skills, and experience to lead a department and to provide the technical advice, guidance and direction related to large programs.
  • Ability to present information in an informative and clear manner. Ability to communicate clear high-level information to senior leadership team, board and other constituents.
  • Excellent analytical, conceptual thinking and strategic planning skills.
  • Team player, collaborative, leads by example.
  • Willingness to travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Accounting or Finance and professional certification.
  • Experience in a global NGO.
  • Previous board level interactions.
  • Experience managing donor funds including knowledge of US Government compliance regulations.
  • Experience with large-scale systems implementation and using technology to enhance financial processes.
