The primary purpose of the AVP of Corporate Partnerships is to support the VP, Chief Corporate Development Officer in leading team initiatives that operationalize our three-year plan to transform the Corporate Partnerships team into a $100M team by 2020. This strategy role involves meeting with the VP and senior team leads to set annual goals—and update strategies, activities and KPIs on a quarterly basis to address growth opportunities and risks. This role requires experience in vision and goal setting—as well as experience in driving team initiatives that align with trends in corporate strategy, experiential brand marketing, volunteerism and social innovation. The AVP will also help lead the team’s annual budgeting process, monitor and report on team progress toward revenue goals, and help resolve key growth barriers in consultation with the VP, senior team leads and agency management.
In addition, the AVP will serve as senior level support to the VP of Corporate Partnerships in leading Corporate Council and Agency initiatives that will help us achieve our $100M goal.
The AVP will also be the Corporate Partnership’s liaison to our Agency’s centennial efforts by ensuring we have a centennial plan for our top 10-15 corporate partners, providing senior advisory on a Corporate Council Centennial Action Team, and reporting to agency leadership on our centennial plans and accomplishments through 2020.
Additionally, the AVP will lead the Corporate Partnerships team in planning for a bi-annual Recognition event (in coordination with other high value private fundraising departments) recurring in 2020.
These AVP responsibilities will be incremental to their Account Management or New Business portfolio.
- Revenue Generation - Directly contribute to the team and department's revenue goal in either driving $4-5+ million annually from large corporate accounts (excluding GIK)—or $1.5M+ in new business. Revenue growth will come from all applicable aspects of the relationship including (but not limited to) programmatic support; emergency program funding; cause promotions; licensing; GIK of product, media and/or expertise; business innovations; advocacy engagement; workplace giving; and employee engagement—with special focus on shared value, collective impact and social enterprise models. For all global partners and prospects, hold planning sessions with Technical Advisors and other key agency stakeholders. Responsible for setting clear objectives and measures for self and others. (40%)
- Team Management - Lead, mentor and develop a team of corporate account or new business managers, to manage committed grants and/or grow new business revenue. Assist team in creating customized decks with storytelling, concept notes and shared value proposals, ensuring that Save the Children’s value proposition is clearing defined; review final pitches / proposals to ensure high quality, shared value and evidence-based approaches in coordination with our Technical Advisors and Field experts; ensure due diligence reports are completed per guidelines. Drive post-pitch debrief sessions on large bids in coordination with the Prospect Funding and Proposal Development team. Create stakeholder-mapping plans for large prospects to ensure senior agency leadership engagement and develop communications / recognition plans for large accounts on an annual basis. Provide ongoing mentoring to ensure progress toward professional and career development goals of direct reports. (30%)
- Deputy Role - Work closely with the VP, Corporate Development Officer in monitoring the Corporate Team’s $100M plan and working with senior team leads to revise corporate fundraising goals, strategies, activities and KPIs on a quarterly basis to reflect changes in Agency strategy, corporate social responsibility trends and team development plans. In addition, the AVP will help set Corporate’s annual revenue and expense budgets each year, and report on progress at monthly meetings with the Office of the President and Senior Management team. They will lead the Corporate Team’s Centennial Planning (through 2020)—and lead on the Corporate Team’s involvement at RD’s bi-annual Recognition Event (restart in 2020). The AVP will represent the VP at internal and external meetings as needed (15%)
- Corporate Council / Strategy Initiatives– Work closely with the VP, Council Chair and Council Vice Chair in creating the annual Council remit and Action Team agenda based on team growth opportunities and challenges, external corporate partnership trends and Council interest areas; liaison with Council Members to ensure full engagement and satisfaction with their respective Council role; provide senior advisory on Council Action Teams or Agency strategy initiatives, as assigned; and work closely with senior team members and administrative staff in facilitating the annual Council meeting (10%).
- External Visibility – Contribute to building our visibility with the corporate sector by speaking or facilitating at least one external panel per year. (5%)
- Minimum of 15-20 years' experience in a private sector I corporate environment working in strategy consulting, brand management, strategy development, R&D or senior-level marketing function.
- Demonstrated evidence of having worked with a diverse range of senior-level stakeholders (e.g., Board, C-level executives, non-profit leaders).
- Experience in creating and executing strategic plans and managing a P&L.
- Proven revenue generator that has personally succeeded in securing 7-figure grants or proposal awards from Fortune 500.
- Extensive knowledge of current theories and practices in corporate partnership trends (e.g., collective impact, shared value / co-creation, public-private partnerships, cause marketing, global volunteerism), with the ability to conceptualize, initiate and deliver multi-stakeholder projects that meet specific goals, on time and with distinction.
- An effective communicator that has played a role in increasing the visibility of the corporate team in inter-agency forums and working groups, as well with external senior-level corporate decision-makers at conferences and other thought leadership forums.
- An individual with strong people skills and a demonstrated team player.
- Strong coaching skills to hire, lead and mentor a large team of senior-level revenue generators with corporate partners and clients.
- Extensive experience in facilitating cross-functional brainstorms to drive multi-year strategy development.
- Demonstrates positive attitude and optimism that ambitious goals can be met.
- Ability to generate new ideas and innovative projects to continuously raise our game; translates innovative strategies and new ideas into cross-team, cross-functional projects with specific KPis aligned with team and organizational goals.
- Must be willing and able to travel both domestically and internationally, up to 30% of the time.
- Fluency in English.
