Peace Ministries (a non-profit organization formed by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace) is hiring an  Assistant Executive Director to support the operations of the organization in carrying out its mission to govern, support, and advocate for the sponsored ministries of the sisters. This is a full-time, exempt position, which will be primarily onsite in Englewood Cliffs, with the possibility of some remote work after 6 months.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Director at Peace Ministries to coordinate and oversee the day-to-day activities of the organization as it strives to support the Congregation’s sponsored ministries in New Jersey. Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills are essential for this position.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Monitor compliance with bylaws of Peace Ministries and the sponsored ministries, including annual meeting requirements, reporting requirements, and reserved powers, such as appointment of trustees and officers.
  • Assist with annual budget, yearend closing and monthly financial reporting processes. Oversee cash disbursements cycle, including invoice approval and weekly issuance of checks.
  • Oversee and monitor strategic plan implementation and provide periodic updates to the board.
  • Develop policy recommendations in areas such as finance, governance and human resources.
  • Assist with oversight of benefit plans, coordinate with the regional controller as needed, and oversee compliance with the organization’s 401K plan.
  • Provide support and resources to the Board of Trustees and standing committees of the board, including agendas, meeting materials, conflict of interest policy, board and trustee self-evaluations, etc.
  • Coordinate the efforts of trustees serving as liaisons to the ministry boards and serve as a liaison, as needed.
  • Support the Mission Integration Director and Communications Coordinator, working collaboratively to the greatest extent possible.
  • Maintain strong relationships with the senior leadership teams of each of the sponsored ministries. Set up meetings with ministry representatives, as needed, to foster dialogue and collaboration.
  • Attend key events of each ministry as a representative of Peace Ministries, such as annual galas, community events, major fundraisers or employee recognition events.
  • Coordinate with other support personnel in the region or Congregation offices.
  • Provide administrative support as requested by Executive Director.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree
Advanced degree or certifications preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Previous experience in a mission-based, non-profit organization, as either an employee or volunteer.
  • Willingness to learn about, support and respect the charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, and its mission of peace through justice.
  • Familiarity with Catholic Social Teaching preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong listening skills and the capacity to consider views contrary to one’s own.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and effective teams.
  • A self-starter with strong planning and time management skills.
  • Previous experience in policy development and implementation.
  • Aptitude for financial analysis.
  • Supervisory experience and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • High level of professionalism and able to maintain strict confidence.
Compensation/Benefits: 
  • Salary commensurate with experience (an estimated range of $80,000- $105,000 per year)
    • Wage will be determined based on factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience/qualifications, and internal equity.
  • Benefits include medical, prescription, dental, vision, life and disability insurance. PTO includes vacation and sick days, and approximately ten paid holidays a year.
