Manages the websites for two NIH-funded clinical research networks for which FHI 360 serves as the coordinating and operations center: HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) and International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials (IMPAACT) Network. Develops graphical and other multimedia content on web sites and for other platforms. Creates online visual design, including typography, visual concept, logo and icon design for the Internet and interactive platforms. Effectively communicates and coordinates with the information architect, writer and production specialists to ensure that the visual design communicates the desired message, and functions successfully for varying technical and performance specifications.  Designs art and copy layouts using knowledge of using HTML/DHTML, XML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript, Adobe Dreamweaver, CMS platforms and other graphical multimedia applications. Determines style, size, and arrangement of type and illustrations. Ensures design consistency throughout the entire web site and across platforms.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Translates marketing or informational content into a functional and engaging website.
  • Creates verbal content for the website or using approved content from internal colleagues and collaborators.
  • Maps or outlines a website's structural content.
  • Creates or edits images and graphics for website use.
  • Determines all coding requirements for site creation including: e-commerce capability, forms and specialized scripts.
  • Create templates of approved website layout.
  • Codes website using HTML, or GUI design software.
  • Coordinates with programmers for specialized scripts.
  • Integrates verbal content with site design for final product.
  • Post completed site to internet server using File Transfer Protocol (FTP) software.
  • Leads the effort in strategic design and user interface direction.
  • Gathers information and architecture requirements from key stakeholders in cross-functional meetings.
  • Enhances the “usability” of organization websites by creating and policing coding standards and best practices for user interface, site organization, navigation, color palette, fonts, page layout, and graphical elements.
  • Serve as main contact for external website developers.
  • Create/manage study-specific websites using content management systems such as Wordpress
  • Recommend plug-ins and modules for websites such as translation services or contact form software
  • Executes changes/enhancements to sites, aligning with the needs of trials networks and with emerging online trends/tools. HTML/CSS coding skills required. Must also have strong skills in Adobe Dreamweaver and experience using content management systems (CMS) such as Drupal and WordPress.
  • Makes recommendations for website layout enhancements that improve upon usability and presentation of information aligning with the goals, vision and messaging of each of the networks.
  • Facilitates the mapping of website structural content in website redesign and works with programmers to implement
  • Regularly coordinates with programmers for specialized scripts
  • Regular monitoring and reporting of web metrics keeping in mind the overall goals of the trials networks. Must have experience using Google Analytics with an understanding of site optimization techniques (SEO).
  • Liaises with internal website experts to facilitate development of graphical and other multimedia content websites.
  • Creates or facilitates creation of all online visual design, including typography, visual concept, logo and icon design for the websites and interactive platforms.
  • Effectively communicates and coordinates with the clinical trials managers and communications officers to ensure that the visual design communicates the desired message, and functions successfully for varying technical and performance specifications.
  • Designs art and copy layouts using knowledge of Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop and InDesign applications. Determines style, size, and arrangement of type and illustrations.
  • Ensures design consistency throughout entire website and across platforms.
  • Creates or edits images and graphics for website use, study materials, advertisements, mobile and social media ad campaigns, PowerPoint presentations and research posters.
  • Creates graphic materials network conferences and meetings as needed. Coordinates with printing company on timeline.
  • May serve a marketing function for digital projects such as ad campaign management.
  • Captures and edits photos and video as needed.
  • Copyedits newsletters, documents, press releases, and other written materials as needed. Knowledge of AP Style is a plus.
  • Stays abreast of emerging website trends and new technologies/tools within field. Assesses new software products and web solutions, advising on the best to adopt and on emerging best practices.
  • Accountable for immediate response and resolution of any website problems that may emerge.
  • Maintains key tracking and information management databases for generation of progress, performance, and other reports in collaboration with Applications Analyst.
  • Manages and maintains interfaces between the websites and databases in collaboration with Applications Analyst.
  • Works effectively in team-oriented environment; functions as strong team-player.

Supervision Given/Received:

  • Has limited or no supervisory responsibility.

  • Typically reports to a Manager.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree or its International Equivalent • Computers, Marketing, Graphic Design, Web Design and Development, Information Design, Computer Science or Related Field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Web site structure and functionality involving corporate branding, layout, color theory and typography in both print and digital media.
  • Strong technical knowledge of how web-based technologies apply to web design such as HTML/DHTML, XML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript, Adobe Dreamweaver and CMS platforms.
  • Knowledge and experience of databases (Oracle, SQL Server, etc), Google Analytics and other analytics tools, and experience using that information to inform future projects; understanding of site optimization techniques (SEO).
  • Design abilities in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and web design skills a strong plus. Acuity with design / concept and coding essential.
  • Knowledge of Web based display issues, such as dithering, Web safe color palettes, resolution, file size, and file formats.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong business acumen to lead creative aspect of a project.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual and organizational skills with online software concepts.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to understand stakeholder deliverables and meet/exceed their expectations
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.
  • Typically requires 5-8 years of experience with developing, structuring and managing web site designs for organization.
  • Strong skills in HTML/DHTML, XML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript, Adobe Dreamweaver and familiarity with CMS platforms.
  • Experience in corporate branding, layout, color theory and typography in both print and digital media.
  • Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with collaborators and staff.
  • Certifications in Web Development, Web Design, and Web Programming preferred
  • Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience of databases (Oracle, SQL Server, etc).
  • Experience in Google Analytics and other analytics tools, and experience using that information to inform future projects.
  • Understanding of site optimization techniques (SEO).
  • Strong project management skills required.
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to accurately proof code and content.
