Responsible for planning, organizing, conducting and managing investigations of complaints of violations of FHI 360 policies including but not limited to Equal Opportunity Employment, harassment-free workplace, Code of Ethics and Conduct, professional standards of conduct. Support management in improving FHI 360 operations by ensuring that lessons learned from investigations inform remedial actions which are carried out to prevent future incidents.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Conduct complex investigations, complaints of discrimination, harassment, and other workplace complaints in an objective, timely, thorough, and professional manner.
  • Closely coordinate with Legal, Security, and Operations, other departments and external agencies to ensure staff safety and facilitate the delivery of trauma and/or social-emotional services to survivors.
  • Develop investigative plans and reports; outlining consistent interview questions and assess documentation requirements.
  • Interview complainants, respondents, witnesses and other necessary individuals at a variety of levels of the organization or community to obtain relevant facts related to complaints.
  • Review relevant information including company documents, emails, statements, phone records, policies, etc. which bear on the facts of the complaint.
  • Prepare report of findings and recommendations to prevent future incidents
  • Identify and analyze trends and opportunities for proactive issue mitigation and prevention supporting a culture consistent with FHI 360 values.
  • Develop and provide training and advice to HR, Legal, and other staff supporting investigations to develop capacity within to effectively change culture and insure proper treatment of staff as needed.
  • Liaise with colleagues in Operations to incorporate investigation lessons learned into program enhancements, as well as broad organization needs.
  • Participate in employee engagement survey development, analysis and action planning as well as other culture initiatives to incorporate best practices to contribute to a safe and respectful work environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree or it's International Equivalent in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, social sciences, legal or Related Field
Master’s Degree preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong skills in the areas of conflict resolution, problem-solving techniques, interviewing, and investigation
  • Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills demonstrated by the ability to analyze information and facilitate resolution of difficult challenges, including the ability to handle issues of complex and extreme sensitivity
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with culturally diverse constituents understanding power dynamics and intersectionality which can create overlapping systems of disadvantage.
  • Excellent written communication skills, report writing with clear presentation of facts and relevant circumstances.
  • High level of integrity, detail, thoroughness, and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of sexual assault or sexual harassment issues and the relationship of sexual assault or sexual harassment on victims and using a trauma-informed approach in investigations.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple investigations and deadlines.
  • Ability to manage emotions and maintain objectivity in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization, including remote areas
  • Knowledge of country, state and local laws, statutes, which govern employment policies and practices and ability to work with local attorneys to understand laws regarding employment and appropriate disciplinary processes.
  • Thorough understanding and application of internal and external HR principles, concepts, practices and standards
  • Human Resource certification SPHR/PHR/GPHR or SCP/CP preferred
  • Minimum of 5+ years of demonstrated experience in areas that include complaint, incident and/or grievance investigation and resolution - in discrimination, harassment, retaliation, employee misconduct, or sexual misconduct complaints.  
  • Experience with investigative and mediation techniques associated with conflict resolution, inappropriate behavior, harassment, discrimination, sexual misconduct,
  • Experience working in a global organization. Familiarity with Humanitarian settings preferred.
  • Experience applying survivor-centered approaches and equity framework in processes and decision making.
  • Experience with building effective partnerships with diverse constituencies.
  • Prior work experience in a humanitarian, international development and non-governmental organizations (NGO) preferred.

  • Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 5 - 25 lbs.
