To assist, support and contribute to Food Security & Livelihoods sector towards Improved and resilient livelihoods and food security programs for child wellbeing.

With technical guidance and mentoring from a Project Manager/Technical Specialist the incumbent will assist the project management team and guide/supervise partners, ensuring high-quality, accountable, community-focused project design and implementation with a bias towards Crop Production, Livestock Production, Natural Resource Management and Economic Development. With guidance and mentoring, the position-holder will assist in planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting for direct & indirect WVI implemented project(s). The position-holder will drive project implementation, ensuring projects take place on-time, on-target and within budget. He/she will provide support for the development of community driven and integrated programming through participation in assessments, design, monitoring, evaluation and joint-planning of projects. The position holder will spearhead capacity building efforts to community groups and partners, developing context appropriate training materials, organizing and facilitating trainings, and monitoring community uptake. The incumbent is expected to have knowledge and experience in Extension approaches and methodologies including Demonstration plots, Farmer Field School & Farmer to farmer extension approaches. The position holder will actively promote sector growth developing concept notes, forming alliances with INGO/NGO and government agencies, and meeting with potential donors as required. The incumbent will support external engagement with relevant government ministries, INGO/NGOs to promote coordination and cooperation, taking leadership roles with remote support from the manager. The incumbent will assume other administrative roles in the field on behalf of the regional office where possible

  • Ensure quality, timely reporting, assessment and baselines
  • Foster external and internal engagement to promote awareness of the program, support fund-raising efforts, and facilitate coordination
  • Promote accountability, compliance and good stewardship
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Plant breeding, Horticulture, Agricultural extension, Agribusiness Management, Animal or Livestock Science, Rural development, Development Studies or closely related field from a reputable and recognized Univers
Skills/Experience: 
  • Project Officer must have good time management, multitasking skills
  • Good team work and leadership skills are essential in order to motivate different groups of people to fulfill their responsibilities within a given time frame.
  • Able to maintain performance expectations in diverse cultural contexts, psychologically stressful environments and physical hardship conditions with limited resources.
  • Fluency in the English & Local languages spoken in the working area.
  • A person of high moral and ethical standards
  • Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills;
  • Must demonstrate a willingness to mentor and teach others;
  • Excellent analytical skills, particularly in the realm of grant management;
  • Must promote Finance policy and procedure, must walk the talk in terms of accountability;
  • Ability to manage finances within a given activity budget
  • Ensure a gender perspective in the scope of work;
  • Strong organizational skills, versatility, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  • The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in Relief and Development work
  • Practical experience in Crop Production, Soil and Water Management, Pest Management, Post-Harvest handling techniques and Marketing. In-depth knowledge of Agronomy, cropping calendar and recommended/preferred seed varieties in operational areas is a must.
  • Practical experience in Farmer Extension methodologies is a must
  • Practical experience in Livestock disease diagnosis and drug administration. Knowledge on routine livestock vaccination programmes is a must
  • Practical experience in Theory & practical training of Community Based Animal Health Workers
  • Practical experience in Theory & practical training of Community Based Farmer groups
  • Practical experience in Theory & practical training of Saving groups
  • Basic to Intermediate English Spoken and Written;
  • Technical Training qualifications required: Professional technical skill desired- especially in the realms of community engagement and project-cycle management
  • Proven experience in technical surveying, project designing, implementation
  • Good knowledge of SPHERE standards.
  • Computer literacy in MS Word, MS Excel, Power point and Technical Drawing Packages.
  • Experience in community based participatory development approaches strongly desired
  • Financial management (Non-Finance mangers.)

​Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment: Field -based with frequent travel to the project sites
  • Travel: 10% Domestic/international travel is required.
  • On call: 24hrs
