The Alzheimer's Association is a nationwide organization whose mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.  Our vision is a world without Alzheimer's disease.  The Greater Iowa Chapter serves 86 counties from its headquarters in West Des Moines and branch offices throughout the state.

The Development Specialist is responsible for planning and implementing fund development activities in assigned counties. The individual has responsibility for Walk to End Alzheimer's, The Longest Day and other fundraising events as well as supporting other fund development activities.  The Development Specialist collaborates with other employees and volunteers to advance all the strategic goals of the Alzheimer's Association. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Raising Revenue

  • Coordinate all aspects of Walk to End Alzheimer's in assigned communities.
  • Support The Longest Day through the recruitment, retention and support of team captains. 
  • Support activities to raise revenue from individuals by identifying and cultivating relationships with prospective donors.
  • Work with staff and volunteers to identify and cultivate new sources of funding and in-kind contributions from individuals, businesses, foundations and community organizations.
  • Maintain accurate records of event participation and other metrics.
  • Fully utilize Association-wide constituent management and event management systems (i.e. Convio and Personify).  
  • Serve as a liaison to businesses, organizations and/or individuals who sponsor third-party special events to benefit the chapter.  

Community Outreach

  • Present education programs for lay audiences, information on Alzheimer's Association services and facts about Alzheimer's disease through public speaking, health fair exhibits and other methods.
  • Provide information and referrals to individuals who contact Alzheimer's Association following established protocols.
  • Support objectives to accelerate Alzheimer's research by promoting participation in Trial Match.
  • Support Association initiatives to increase concern about Alzheimer's disease and awareness of the Alzheimer's Association and serve as the representative of the Association on local media interviews.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Director to promote local programs and events.
  • Collaborate with the Public Policy Director to recruit advocates and support public policy initiatives.
  • Participant in related community coalitions to advance strategic objectives.

Volunteer Management

  • Recruit, train, manage and recognize volunteers to support assigned duties.
  • Identify, refer and support volunteers to increase constituent engagement in all areas of the Association's strategic plan.

Operations

  • Assist with the annual budgeting process and manage assigned activities within budgeted parameters. 
  • Collaborate with other chapters in Region 5 to accelerate progress toward Association goals.
  • Submit timely and accurate records and reports, newsletter articles and other information as requested by the chapter staff.
Skills/Experience:
