Vice President Development

We have an excellent opportunity for a Vice President, Development-Colorado which reports to the Senior Vice President Colorado and is responsible for driving revenue growth, volunteer recruitment and management, management of fundraising staff, and organizational leadership in Denver and Colorado Springs. The Vice President, Development will advance the mission of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association through the planning, management and implementation of balanced campaigns in collaboration with internal and external volunteers and other partners in achieving overall market and affiliate goals. This includes ensuring that market revenue goals (the UFCI revenue goal for the market) are achieved, active collaboration in driving towards Affiliate Revenue and Health Impact Goals and effectively engaging volunteers and staff across functional areas. Position will be in our Denver office.

Areas of Responsibility: 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OUTCOMES:

  • Increase overall market revenue by implementing and setting Best Practices. Drive new business recruitment. Achieves campaign growth through the cultivation, stewardship, renewal and acquisition of companies and donors. Drives the engagement of the top companies through both volunteer leadership engagement and direct business development.
  • Directly manages the development/fundraising campaigns and staff teams to achieve aggressive revenue targets through strategic campaign development and effective volunteer and staff management. Management includes identifiying and driving toward goals, performance standards, coaching and counseling staff; interviewing, hiring and training staff; evaluating staff performance and empowering team members to lead and champion the revenue and health needs of the market.
  • Identifies, recruits, orients, engages and develops campaign chairs and corporate committee members to achieve campaign financial and mission delivery goals.
  • Identifies, recruits, orients, engages and develops medical and non-medical volunteer partners and leadership, ensuring the volunteer leadership represents and provides the diversity, community influence and personal affluence to champion the fundraising success of all campaigns through their personal and corporate giving and securing the involvement and giving of others. With the VP, Health and the SVP responsible for the Board objectives and is a conduit and contact for Board volunteers.
  • As a member of the market's management team, consistently models the AHA's leadership competencies and values in advancing the AHA/ASA's mission and achievement of revenue and health impact goals. Promotes collaboration with development and health strategies staff around revenue and mission related goals.
  • Continually seeks out opportunities to more deeply engage event donors through Cor Vitae and adding to the Southwest Affiliate Major Gifts portfolio, actively working to identify aspirational donors and collaborating with Mission Advancement partners.
  • Frequent written and oral communications, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation and training and writing clear, concise narrative reports and evaluations. Ability to negotiate, interact and communicate with customers, and to clearly and concisely exchange ideas, facts and information. Ability to train, manage, guide, motivate volunteers and/or staff to achieve objectives. 
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred
College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree
Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 ½ years’ experience equates to 1 full time year of higher education
Skills/Experience: 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of experience in outside sales or in a non-profit organization in a similar capacity. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position’s educational requirement.
  • 3+ years of experience in a management capacity. This experience may occur within the 5 years related experience requirement. Experience gained through direct internal work on AHA projects/priorities may substitute for this requirement and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, organize, train, manage and utilize staff and volunteers effectively and volunteer/board management experience.
  • Self-motivated, highly effective organization and analytical skills, multi-tasking, communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to productively participate in a multi-disciplinary team environment working toward common goals with internal and external clients.

  • Strong communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to influence team members without supervisory authority.
  • Organize and prioritize multiple priorities.
  • Identify gaps in campaign and develop strategies to achieve goals.
  • Skill in making oral presentations to large and small groups.
  • Satisfactory background checks upon offer of employment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally 80% of the time and work nights, weekends, etc., as required.
